Salt Mines of Skyrim

I uploaded an updated v1.1 LE version that adds a salt mine to Raven Rock; thus it requires Dragonborn. (requires DLC so uploaded as new mod). Use one or the other, not both since both mods have Falkreath and Winterhold mines. It has a different ESP name, so if you're switching over to the new version you'll get a "Missing Content" error when loading a save. However, these mod's DO NOT contain any new scripts (they use vanilla ore script), so you should still be ok removing it. This version will still continue to remain uploaded as I understand not everyone has the DLC. Thanks !!!

That pterodactyl screech you hear in the distance is me, screaming how this mod is the answer to my prayers.

Seems like a great mod. I'd love to use it. Does it work with Realistic Needs and Hunterborn?

@Mel
Thanks for the feedback; much appreciated :)

@Possum0231
The clock mod is in the description

First, I'd like to say this mod is underrated. I think the idea of having salt mines is a pretty clever one. My character is usually a ranger type that hunts a lot, and I start hunting and cooking pretty early on in the game. Usually at that point, I don't have a whole lot of salt to cook with, but I'll have huge stockpiles of meat. Not to mention that I love mining. It adds to my "work" when I collect stuff to cook with and makes me feel more like I earned it. So don't listen to those who say it's "pointless." On the contrary, it's one of the more useful mods I play with.

what is the timeteller/clock in the top left corner?
Wallace 13 Aug, 2014 @ 8:42pm
is there a german translation???
ShocksVR #AirLink  [author] 13 Jul, 2014 @ 8:51pm
@askyf
It might, best way to see is to use the mine, go to a different location and rest 3 days; then return to the mine and see if it's compatible.
askyf 12 Jul, 2014 @ 3:32pm
Does the mod ''everything respawn's in 3 days'' work with this mod?
TheXoX 6 Jul, 2014 @ 11:25am
Thank you very much! I love cooking and hunting, I always missed the salt, now I won't :)
ShocksVR #AirLink  [author] 3 Jul, 2014 @ 12:39pm
@Crazycolbster
Yes; the mines should repsawn just like the other Skyrim mines [usually between 10-30 days]. Of course, you cannot go to the mines, or the "Respawn Clock" will start over.

I am quite impressed you were able to use all the Salt, each mine should give enough Rock Salt to create 100+ Salt Piles per mine.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback :)
Crazycolbster 3 Jul, 2014 @ 12:24pm
Does the salt regenerate over time? I mined all of the salt and still don't have enough for all my food.
Puddinpopbob 29 Jun, 2014 @ 6:12pm
Perfect i cook all the time in skyrim and always run out of salt piles
Qahnaarin Tom 29 Jun, 2014 @ 2:44am
I have added a German translation file of your mod on
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49778
to import into your esp with Skyrim String Localizer
ying_ko13 28 Jun, 2014 @ 4:38pm

Thank you to everyone who has commented; I appreciate the feedback :)
LazyWife 28 Jun, 2014 @ 1:36pm
So I headed on over to the Falkreath salt mine, checked out a food barrel near the sleeping miners and found....salt. And an Abecean Longfin. Time to make more ridiculously OP Potions of Restoration! I even managed to mine some salt. And gold (a nice touch, BTW). A great mod. XD
Kristen 28 Jun, 2014 @ 7:57am
Realistic and entertaining, although I have yet to try it out. Thank you!

good
peteg88 28 Jun, 2014 @ 2:52am
I can't ever remember being out of salt. Also, wouldn't it make more sense to have salt piles near the shore or lakesides rather than underground?
VIking 27 Jun, 2014 @ 6:45pm
jingles got you to do this didnt he....

Heh, great, we were saying on the forum that Skyrim needs some salt mines. Just the ticket.

@wow: most salt is actually mined out of the ground. Its the dried up remains of salt lakes, ancient evaporated oceans, etc. Extracting salt from the ocean is quite expensive and labour intensive. It has to be evaporated first.
OJ the Juiceman 27 Jun, 2014 @ 3:40pm
it would make it more worth while if you made salt worth more
Krajacek 27 Jun, 2014 @ 3:25pm
I started Skyrim again, with a new character , I am ALWAYS out of salt for my awesome gourmet dishes like Mammoth nose , great mod imo
Krajacek 27 Jun, 2014 @ 3:23pm
hi sodium diets are BAD !! lol /jk great idea 3 thumbs up! =)
ShocksVR #AirLink  [author] 27 Jun, 2014 @ 2:15pm
@wow
Yes, but Salt can accumulate near coasts and underground sources due to ancient oceans, or mineralization from underground/aboveground water sources, etc...

Spaceship 27 Jun, 2014 @ 2:10pm
Doesn't salt come from the ocean?
Robinsenpai 27 Jun, 2014 @ 1:19pm
Oh great. Now i can be a salt merchant.
ShocksVR #AirLink  [author] 27 Jun, 2014 @ 1:12pm
Friedrich is correct; thanks for helping out a fellow dovahkiin :)

This mod is fairly lightweight; and should be compatible with most mods.
sylveon irl 27 Jun, 2014 @ 12:31pm
look shocks make a weapon mod that i like then i will send nice comments if you dont make mods that dont crash my game
Outlander36 27 Jun, 2014 @ 12:28pm
@R4gegamingstudios it should not be a problem, unless the city building mod was located in the exact same area as the salt mines ( which is unlikely)
NekoNinja 27 Jun, 2014 @ 12:07pm
Can i use it in a current save?
I have these mods:
Wet and cold
Frostfall
Needs and ilnesses i think its called
And a city building mod.

discount_venom 27 Jun, 2014 @ 11:46am
What mod are you using for the day/night cycle UI in the top left corner of some of the photos?
ShocksVR #AirLink  [author] 27 Jun, 2014 @ 11:24am
@cozzamcl
Not only are you the first person to say my mod crashes their game; but it's highly unlikely my mod can even cause crashes. I did not touch Navmesh data [so no deleted references], it is cleaned of ITMs. Lastly, I added these mines to obscue locations that many other mods do not use [Falkreath/Hammerfell Border gate; and a side of a mountain for the WInterhold mine].

I don't add any new scripts, I don't add any new meshes nor textures [well except facegendata]. This is a very basic mod.

I would say the problem is your end. Perhaps try reinstalling the mod, or use a "Load Order Tool" such as "LOOT" : http://loot.github.io/

The above tool "LOOT" will automatically order your mods in an optimized order.
TrippleWix 27 Jun, 2014 @ 11:23am
why i need salt mines ? O.o
sylveon irl 27 Jun, 2014 @ 11:14am
very bad crashes my game too much plus its usless
ShocksVR #AirLink  [author] 27 Jun, 2014 @ 10:45am
@Storm
It's cool, I was just giving a context of why one would need salt.

@Vamp
To each their own
VampiricHitman 27 Jun, 2014 @ 10:33am
I've always had an over abundance of salt piles so im not sure how you could have a sortage, every skelaton in every dungeon has a salt pile on them. Seems pretty pointless.
Zack 27 Jun, 2014 @ 10:27am
Great idea.
Storm_at_Sea 27 Jun, 2014 @ 10:10am
I've used that Feasts of SKyrim mod out of the workshop, but doesn't matter for me lol, I like cooking in game, but probably it's due to my compulsive collecting and checking every container that can store things, you do that and it'll be coming out of your ears!- it's in most barrels and common/uncommon containers.. Outside of a 'need' for salt which isn't an issue for 'me', it makes it seem a bit more realistic- mines of salt. I'm not bashing you, I just was shocked when I saw it (mod description). :):riften:
ShocksVR #AirLink  [author] 27 Jun, 2014 @ 10:04am
I use a needs mod "Imps More Complex Needs" https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13056
At times, I find myself having a short supply of Salt Piles because of all the cooking I do.
Storm_at_Sea 27 Jun, 2014 @ 9:59am
'usually short of salt pile' quite the opposite for me- I assumed everyone always had too much of that stuff. :trilogo:

Ruthless 27 Jun, 2014 @ 7:45am
Well now you'll NEVER have to worry about it
