really awesome!
So I copied an Annotated map (Export) onto a sheet of paper, and import it into my main map, IT WORKS. However, that was done with a pencil, havent tried with vanilla pens or crayons.
I also have Extra map symbols and the map symbol slider mod installed along with it and I dont see any incompatibility issue.
It's unfortunate that this mod doesn't seem to be maintained anymore, it was very helpful in the past. Hopefully it will get an update soon.
Works for me. Might be a mod incompatibility issue.
Are you pressing the "export markings" button in your map to write them down onto the paper?
if i get a chance i will try and have a look at the code and see if i can work out how to patch it - maybe get it to allow you to choose which color markings to export or something
so - it's gonna be a pain in the ass - but this should work
export your map to a piece of paper (and give it a unique name so you don't forget which one it is)
then delete any markings you don't want to export from your map
then export your map to a piece of paper (again with a unique name)
then import the first map to your map to restore all your markings
you now have a paper map with just the marking you want
and you can export as many as you like before you restore your map (so long as you have sufficient pieces of paper) - and they don't need unique names - since they are all the same map
fiddly - but should work :-)
yup - i knew what feature you wanted - was just clarifying the features that currently exist based on what you were saying
but i totally get what you want - and no it's not currently possible
and to be honest it doesn't look like the authors have any plans for updates
but i understand you wanted to request that feature :-)
but....... i just worked out how you can do it
it's a little fiddly - but should work - will put it in a new post - coz character limit :-)
The whole point I'm trying to make is that I wish I could share only specific markings. If I wanted to share marked places in a city covered by a map, I could literally do that in the base game by putting markings onto a city map. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?
I'm using it as an example to highlight a specific issue.
i agree that this particular feature only works for the areas which have paper maps
but what i am saying is that if you have marked a paper map of Riverside with 20 traps - in the vanilla game, how are you going to get those markings onto your main map? or onto a friend's map?
do you want to manually read and write each one? you would have to open the paper map for each one, remember where it is, close the paper map and then open your main map and make the same marking - 20 times for 20 different markings
with the mod you can write all of those markings to a piece of paper in one go - and then import them to your map all in one go
so yes - for rural areas you are out of luck
but the mod does give you a load of additional options for any area covered by a paper map
if someone can work out how to make paper maps for the rest of the map, then this will work for those areas too :-)
Yeah I get what you're saying. But what I'm saying is that if someone marked a paper map in the base game, someone else can just go to their own personal map and mark it as such manually. Which is why I'm saying "you can just do that in the base game".
Because that only works in town areas, you can't share markings in forests, etc. unless they're really close to town.
For example,
my favorite base in Riverside to live with my friends:
https://pzmap.projectzomboid.com/#5708x5745x920
Farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. It's not on the map, but it's right next to deep forest. Perfect for trapping.
Now, I leave a lot of notes to myself on the map. Like where I see generators, cooking pans I dropped on the ground, new mufflers, etc.
If I place down some snares in the deep woods, that can't go onto the Riverside map. I'd have to share my own map. Like I said, it's just unfortunate that it all has to be shared. It's still a cool mod.
no - you can write to a paper map in vanilla - but you can't export those marking to share with other people - and they can't then write those marking to their map
you just get one copy of the paper map - and if you want another copy you have to manually make another one - but with the mod, even though you still only get one copy of the master paper map, you can make as many copies as you like for people to write to their main map
i just deleted my other comment because i was mistaken - you can't edit the maps you export
what you can do is make the markings you want to share on a regular paper map - e.g. carry around a map of Rosewood that you mark all your traps on - you can then export that and share it with your friends
obviously only works for areas that have paper maps
Yeah, but if I've got personal markings that I want to keep to myself, in addition to marks that I want to share, it's unfortunate that all of it has to be shared with my friends.
For example, I'm the only one that really cares about base lighting and water dispensers, so I've got tens of marks on my maps for industrial lights, water dispensers, and working cars.
If I just put down some snare traps and I want to share where they are with my friends so they can check them too, they're also going to have to take all my marks of this and that.
It's unfortunate, is all.
your friend can write their map markings to a piece of paper - and then you can write those marking to your map
i don't think it will overwrite the same map markings multiple times, so long as you haven't changed them in any way - e.g. if you write an annotated map to your map and then move one of the markings on your map, and add a new marking to the annotated map, if you export the annotated map again and write it to your map, if will only write the new marking, and the one you moved
And if I copy the markings from some map, then mark that map again, and copy again, will that mean the first marking will be repeated above itself?
and for the regular map you need to hit S to show the menu to edit markings
but if you mean you can't see the new import and export buttons, then that may be a mod conflict - since the buttons should still show on the main map even if you don't have the equipment (just greyed out) - but on a paper map you won't be able to press the Edit Markings button without a pen or pencil
also - the mod checks when you load a save in order to enable or disable the buttons for that session - and so when you find a pen/pencil and some paper, you should save and reload - then the buttons will be available
hope this helps - if not i can try and provide more info
