This wasn't intended to be based on any particular real life star
benandcoopersdad 2 May, 2024 @ 6:35pm
So, this is a mod for the star Betelgeuse?
Shootme 2 Nov, 2023 @ 3:02pm
@echo thank you for your answer. I'm gonna check this quickly.

Ps: Excuse my poor english, it was written on my phone and it is really annoying to canceled word after .... :steamfacepalm:
Echo  [author] 2 Nov, 2023 @ 7:32am
@Shootme You would need to alter the mod and upload your own iteration.

The damage range is linked to where the game considers its "Atmosphere" to begin. Scale that down and the damage will go with it.
Shootme 2 Nov, 2023 @ 6:21am
hey, nice mod
is there a way to decrease the distance's damage.
I have made a solar system, and unfortunatly it is annoying to find how for a planet can be put in "safe zone" from this sun.
I would like to leave like 10 or 50 km away or for the best result on side safe and other side dangerous.
thank you
Cthulhu 27 Jun, 2023 @ 11:53pm
spawning it farther from the center? xD
Echo  [author] 2 Feb, 2023 @ 7:28am
In what way?
Body 2 Feb, 2023 @ 3:29am
Is there a way to edit the luminosity?
sam 23 Oct, 2022 @ 5:42am
Its pretty easy, all you need to do is edit the <color> tag on the cloudlayers in the .sbc file. Unfortunatly, because of keen, all this star really is, is just a very emissive planet. You could have the no sun mod, however you wont really see sun shadows, per say, it would just be dark throughout. If you still need help, you can always join the SE Planet Modding Discord.
VeyOwlet 23 Oct, 2022 @ 5:39am
Oh wait I just realized if I changed the color its gonna do the same for every single one I spawn. Damn it...
VeyOwlet 23 Oct, 2022 @ 5:37am
Could try and do it myself sounds kinda easy, I asked that because I wanna make the stars physical instead of the skybox sun I can us the no sun mod and place the stars in the area where it was, as well as turning off sun rotation. Btw can i have instructions?
Echo  [author] 22 Oct, 2022 @ 7:17pm
Could, yes. However I am on Hiatus from SE and don't know if/when I plan to return. I won't be working on anything mod related for a while.

If you wish to try doing so yourself feel free to do so. Just need to edit the cloud layer colors in the Planet sbc file.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via Discord
VeyOwlet 22 Oct, 2022 @ 5:29pm
You think you could make more of these in different colors?
|RD| OneSki 13 Oct, 2022 @ 3:52pm
I second that there is a bug. People can't join you if you have this planet.

Also, don't choose to spawn here, especially if you have a no speed limit mod. I reached 253,000 m/s before my game crashed. xD
Limu⁧⁧zins 19 Sep, 2022 @ 12:13pm
There is a bug: When this mod is added to your world people can't join you. Hope this can be resolved soon :)

People who are complaining how the gravity isn't "realistic" -- in Space Engineers gravity decreases with the seventh power of distance, instead of the square, so, the unrealism is kind of baked into the system.
Echo  [author] 24 Jun, 2022 @ 9:47am
The gravity was chosen due to the reach of the gravity well at that value. I don't care whether it's realistic or not.

I built it this way because that's how I needed it to function for the server I built it for.

If it doesn't work for you, then you can either choose not to use it, or you're welcome to edit and upload your own adjusted version, so long as it's unlisted.
tmo97 24 Jun, 2022 @ 8:13am
For comparison, our sun has roughly 25G, which means 10,000G makes no sense.
Echo  [author] 19 Mar, 2022 @ 4:05pm
Have a nexus server in development. I designed this to work in tandem with a "Fuel Scoop" block that will be able to syphon off hydrogen from it.

The gravity and atmosphere are set the way they are so that they align at certain distances. I had to balance the ranges at which the damage begins to function (extent of the "atmosphere") with the visual graphic of suns outer layer, and range/intensity of the gravity well at the point where syphoning will be visible.
Mirti 19 Mar, 2022 @ 2:05pm
what kinda server you making?
Dots 11 Mar, 2022 @ 1:55am
hahah.. Gravity: 10,000g .. omg.. hahah.. you will NEVER get off it if you fall in to it by accident.
sam 20 Feb, 2022 @ 3:32pm
Amazing mod!
Echo  [author] 17 Feb, 2022 @ 1:12pm
The simple fact of the matter is i will not be modifying this. These settings are chosen because this is how i need it to operate within the server I'm building.

If you need your own modified version, then you are welcome to alter mine and upload it as long as it remains unlisted.

If you don't know how to do so, there are plenty of tutorials, and a lot of very knowledgeable people on Keens official Discord that could point you in the right directions.
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 1:02pm
also with no speed limit the black hole level gravity causes performance to drop and the game to crash
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 1:01pm
I dont know how to make modded planets
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 1:01pm
But I am not intelligent enough to do that sadly
Echo  [author] 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:58pm
You're welcome to upload a server edit so long as you keep it unlisted. However 100g would mean that you wouldn't encounter any gravity until you're well past the outer visible layer.

The outer visible glowing layer sits about 3x the radius of the planet away from the actual physical surface. If lowered to only 100g, then you would also need to pull in the cloudlayer distance to line up with the new gravity range, and pull in the atmosphere height to adjust the starting point of the damage script.

Or.. just don't fly near the giant ball of destruction when playing in a server with no speed limit
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:58pm
You could potentially lower it to (still a ludicrous amount but not game breakingly silly)
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:58pm
I am making a super reallistic physics world, for a server potentially. The issue is with orbit mod gravity is 2gs when the star looks like the sun on earth because of your black hole gravity
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:54pm
so my ship doesnt get sucked into it at ludicrous speed, and even potentially I can have orbit physics mod work so I can have a nice system thing
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:49pm
I think 100gs in innescapable so100gs might be more reasonable if I were to use this on a server with this and infinite speed
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:49pm
due to surface area the gravity of the sun is 27gs
Echo  [author] 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:19pm
This was setup with the expectation of standard speed limits. You're not intended to actually make it to the core. The damage script should eat the majority of your ship well before you've drifted to the center
Echo  [author] 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:17pm
Then don't use a limit remover, anything less than what i've set will remove any semblance of gravity unless you're deep within the Stars Structure and the entire point of a celestial body like this is to be a Hazard. Get to close and your ship risks deteriorating and being pulled in past the point where escape is possible.
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:12pm
yes but once you do you will go toward the center so fast you will glitch through the surface pop out the other side and exit the world, instead of just crash into the center
Echo  [author] 17 Feb, 2022 @ 12:11pm
I used 10,000g due to the extended range of the cloudlayer. Because of how far out the visual glow sits compared to the physical planet itself, it will only be between 0.5g to 1g by the time you're at the exterior of the Suns layers
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 11:38am
So you can have a lot of gravity but not stupidly insane gravity
Novum33 17 Feb, 2022 @ 11:38am
I havent tried it yet, but I suggest more 100 gs of gravity or something, because a ludicrous amount of gs when the world has a speedlimit remover, causes your craft to get sucked in at 100,000m/s+ instantly
Echo  [author] 17 Feb, 2022 @ 9:30am
A large amount of credit for this one goes to Abealpha and Sam for the initial creation of several of the mods assets. From TIM i learned how to properly layer the coloring in order to achieve my desired look.

After that it just came down to tuning the height of the Cloudlayers, reach of its gravity, and atmosphere height (Where the Damage Script kicks in)
Austris 17 Feb, 2022 @ 9:09am
first proper star mod
Echo  [author] 16 Feb, 2022 @ 7:09pm
Yessir, she's thick and eats ships
Novum33 16 Feb, 2022 @ 6:09pm
Oooh a star mod?
