@MaxtheMushroom

Not sure, I haven't played the game for a while now. But the mod is very simple so it's likely that it still works. Here are the instructions on how to test if the mod is working:

"To test it yourself, make sure that your Gyrocompass is powered on and that your Dive Planes are set to Electric. Then, mouse over the detection icon on the right side of the screen (grey eye symbol) if there is no mention of the gyrocompass or dive planes making noise, then the mod is working."

If it works for patch 2025.1 then please let me know and I'll update the title. Thanks

is this still working?

Title/description updated @Joewlpc thanks

From what im seeing while playing this mod it works with 2024.1
Bucketsmith 23 Aug, 2024 @ 8:27am
That's nice!
If it could disable silent running from turning off the gyro and stop dive planes being set to manual, it would be complete. Since they are no longer affecting sound.
Nymbat The Eternal 18 Aug, 2024 @ 1:31pm
Seems to be working with the Full Release.
Bucketsmith 6 Aug, 2024 @ 3:31pm
Hey does it work with the full release as well?
John Dulanius  [author] 21 May, 2024 @ 8:06pm
@Carpless "New save" means you need to make a new campaign. You can not use a game save that you already made. This is the only way that the mod can change the values for the noise.

It sounds like you are talking about opening previous campaigns and saving them with the mod enabled. That is not what was meant by "new save"
John Dulanius  [author] 21 May, 2024 @ 8:03pm
Yes, the mod still works. I just tested it

To test it yourself, make sure that your Gyrocompass is powered on and that your Dive Planes are set to Electric. Then, mouse over the detection icon on the right side of the screen (grey eye symbol) if there is no mention of the gyrocompass or dive planes making noise, then the mod is working.

The purpose of this mod is to allow you to leave your gyrocompass and dive planes alone without worrying about their noise being heard by enemy ships. This was a non-issue in real life, and so should not be one of the things that has to be turned off or set to manual for silent running.

Does this even work?
Carpless 6 Feb, 2024 @ 7:54am
done every save possible still showing as giving our position away
Carpless 5 Feb, 2024 @ 7:33am
Ok 'new saved game' am i doing it right? I have the mod showing under mods, Ive enabled it, entered game saved my progress with a new slot, then exited right out to library then
John Dulanius  [author] 11 Nov, 2022 @ 8:26pm
@BloodDrunk Make sure to create a new save or else the mod will not affect your game
BloodDrunk 10 Nov, 2022 @ 7:11pm
I have this mod installed but it stills shows the gyrocompass and dive planes making noise? Has it not been updated?
aplaceinthesky 20 Oct, 2022 @ 12:55pm
Thx one step ahead to realism!

Thanks a lot :D

This mod has been confirmed to be compatible with UBOAT 2022.1, I plan to update the thumbnail in the near future.

@eagerdoggy Tyvm dude
John Dulanius  [author] 22 Jun, 2022 @ 2:06am
@Janissary_ML You have misunderstood the purpose of this mod, it will still consume electricity, but it will no longer produce audible noise outside of the submarine which could be heard on the hydrophone of an enemy vessel and alert them. This is as close to realistic as the mod can be.
[Just] Mozu 19 May, 2022 @ 12:29am
I have subbed the Mod but might not use it because stuff like rudder or walking doesn't seem to take effect (Still new to the game and playing around, trying stuff so correct me if I am wrong,) and that could make a balance I guess.
But I personally really like the source and pic of it reachable to prove. And that the mod (that looks like cheating on the first view) makes it more realistic in the end.
Nice one.

For what it is worth, might reach out to Aaron Amick from Sub Brief and get his thoughts. I imagine with his background he might have insights that are both enlightening and unclassified, such that anyone can benefit.
Dufti 2 Apr, 2022 @ 12:26am
The heat pump for cooling made the noise in my opinion. Unfortunately, the information is over 20 years old and cannot prove it to you. I'm happy about every mod anyway.
If you don't like it, don't use it.
I'll take a good look at your link when I get a chance. Thank you for your work and I look forward to new mos from you.
John Dulanius  [author] 1 Apr, 2022 @ 12:22pm
@President Rex
You can now find the source linked at the bottom of the mod description.

The only other testing was at 500 m away (page 25), and it has no indication that the Echolot or gyrocompass were tested or heard, presumably drowned out by the motors.

As for the Echolot itself, it says on page 75 "The shallow depth sounding device works noiselessly, while the deep depth device sends sound impulses which are audible." This being said, the 250 m sound testing shown in the mod images and found on page 24 indicate that the shallow ping was in fact heard, but was very quiet.
President Rex 30 Mar, 2022 @ 8:29pm
Does your source happen to have this information from values other than 250 m away?

The Echolot in-game claims the shallow ping is inaudible to enemies (which shouldn't necessarily be the case). The gyro compass (Kreiselkompass) should be quieter than the Echolot. They do make noise (what with high-speed motors and all) but I doubt it would be audible outside the ship.

The gyro compass needs 2-5 hours to start up to provide reliable data
Dufti 16 Mar, 2022 @ 9:40am
Are you perhaps confusing the magnetic compass with the water-cooled gyro compass?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtsfybAHVZM
The magnetic gyro compass is very quiet mother like daughter compass.
John Dulanius  [author] 16 Mar, 2022 @ 9:27am
@Dufti
The gyrocompass still makes noise that you can hear in first person mode, but this mod removed the noise value so that other ships will not hear it. This is due to historical information on sound testing done on the U-boats U-45 and U-51, you can view part of this report in the images above.

@al
A gyroscope is not a magnet. Its a spinning wheel mounted in a way so it can spinn freely. This means the wheel stays in the same possition while the mount can be rotated in every direction. From the diffrence between the oriantations you can meassure drift. This means the wheel needs to be spun up all the time so you have some sort of motor running.
alfox 14 Mar, 2022 @ 2:10pm
i don't think that water cooled gyro exist because i don't think you need to cool down a magnet
Dufti 14 Mar, 2022 @ 6:58am
A water-cooled gyro makes noise

ok good to know im still that bad about progaming :steamsad:
John Dulanius  [author] 3 Mar, 2022 @ 9:39am
@al

This mod changes the Entities datasheet to remove the noise values. Any mod that changes the game's datasheets will require a new save to work.
alfox 3 Mar, 2022 @ 7:15am
it's not save friendly ? can we know why ? i really want to know

is it because the file for that is in the save file ?
Zoey1435 1 Mar, 2022 @ 5:18am
Always was surprised why that even was a thing in the game, the manual control of the dive planes was a fallback for electronics shorting when flooding
MackTheGovnah 1 Mar, 2022 @ 1:58am
Great mod. Please, notify the devs so they can fix it in the next patch!
