Btw, on an unrelated note to the other conversation; maybe it would make sense to make it so the jump adjusts buoyancy up and crouch adjusts buoyancy down, and assign sonar toggle to the same command used for the flashlight?

Do a blip every few seconds, and in the mean time, display a distance-based sweep to simulate the echo effect, like how it takes longer for sound to bounce from something far away? ([probably more fun to not make it real-life speed of sound, but much slower so the player can see the sweep moving)

Btw, I couldn't figure out how to enable a mixed mode with the LIDAR mod to make it display both game graphics and it's own overlay simulatenously, but in the automatic mode where it does a snapshot every second or so, doesn't seem to impact performance that much; and while I didn't figure out how to make it work blended with the regular game graphics, there is a few moments while switching it off where the last dots it created seem to remain in the environment, so it does sound like it is possible to blend the generated stuff with original game graphics.

Doing this lidar thing is relativement expensive in computations for a permanent use.

Do you got access to some sort of raycast function or something similar, you could use to produce a lidar-like overlay that sweeps based on distance?

We can't get the data of the generated particles, unless I simulate myself their behaviour, but then it would become too laggy.

How about throwing a sphere of particles, like an explosion, that each will show a highlight on the overlay when they collide with something?

Manipulating the water transparency is not doable unfortunatly. The API does not allow the rendering of the overlay of a single voxel. I would have to create my own overlay through maybne the draw functions of the API, which would probably render super bad and also kill performances even with low resolution.

Can't you manipulate the fog, or render the voxels as an overlay, like a second render that's blended over, maybe in lower resolution and blurry for performance?

ps: On a side note, not relevant to that feature request, those clips are usually not really explained fully honestly, it's not really shooting at those speeds, but actually the light is strobbing with very short pulses, and they have an extreme short-exposure camera that is synced with the strobbing but just slightly off-sync so that each frame captures a little further into each pulse instead always at the exact same moment, creating the illusion of motion.

Would it be possible to make the sonar work more like an echolocation kinda thing, overlay a grayscale version of the geometry with additive blend mode, lit by a light source originating at your helmet, but with a sorta fade-in/fade-out curve instead of the usual just fade-out lights usually have,and make it grow in a sphere as a function of time so you see a band of light scanning over the geometry as the sphere grows, as the sound moves away form you and bounce back, like those ultra-slowmo videos that show light in motion (like that MIT ones, like that one with the delabeled coke bottle)?

@Mr.pete can you tell me in which location this happen? Sometimes, you may take damages due not to drowning but your character getting too much pressure because of my downforce and the natural upforce of the water, but this happen in very rare locations only.

I'm not a map maker. However, there is a flood mod to raise the water level on any map you want.

Maybe you went into an area where there is no floor. Try it in Lee Chemical first for instance.
