mod options in MP works if you activates the mod in singleplayer option. in Mod Menu
Broccali 30 Apr, 2023 @ 3:08pm
Mod forces itself into my MP even when I do not add it. Makes reading super slow, since I am changing minutes per page option for server to .4. But doesnt take effect since this mod still someone is getting added.
Thay_Santus 15 Dec, 2022 @ 2:19pm
there is no option to just read books quickly, I already set it to the minimum but my character dies of hunger.

@Makk: There should be no problem adding this mod to an existing game. Of course, it needs to be compatible with the other mods. However, even if it isn't I don't think it could really break a save or something. It is a very lightweight mod.

@Hazy Lunar: Sure, go ahead!

Is it safe to add to a multiplayer server mid game?
Nicocoko  [author] 3 Sep, 2022 @ 3:09pm
@Broccali:
Ah, ok I see now why you would think that the mod would influence your server. Actually, the reason why you see the options is because you have activated the mod on game launch. Which options you see in the server settings menu is not influenced by the server's mods but rather by the mods you have loaded when starting up the game. You can change these mods in the "Mods" menu (accessible from the main menu).

Having said that, the mod options are shown but they don't have any effect on the server's game. That is because the mod is not loaded in the server. The options have no influence whatsoever on the game. If you don't want to see these options anymore in the server menu, just deactivate the mod in the "Mod" main menu.

@1stReaper:
Great to hear that it works now!
1stReaper 3 Sep, 2022 @ 12:50pm
works nicely now
till CDDA fixes the issue its having,
ill just stick with this mod for the speed, and deal with the multiplier instead of the streight xp
Broccali 3 Sep, 2022 @ 11:54am
Yeah, I double checked I did not add the mod to either workshop or mod section, but the options to change the reading speed with the food/water multipliers still appear in the mod options when setting up the server. I have minutes per page set to .2.
Nicocoko  [author] 3 Sep, 2022 @ 11:45am
You mean, the mod influences your reading speed even when you didn't add it to the server mods? This shouldn't be possible. In the Zomboid server folder, you can open the .ini file of your server and verify that my mod is really not in the mod list. Search for "Mods" and "WorkshopItems" and make sure that my mod is not referenced in either of them.

That being said, when you change the minutes per page setting on the server and then additionally use my mod, the reading speed will increase and not slow down. The speed-up from the server setting and the speed-up from my mod add together. (I tested this beforehand just to be sure)

Since you are experiencing a slow-down are you sure that the minutes-per-page setting on the server .ini file is correctly configured? The closer the value is to zero the faster is the reading speed.

So I am hosting a coop server with my gf, and I did not add this mod, because you can set the read in settings for MP, but the mod is somehow forcing its way into the server and makes reading super slow. Any ideas as to why?
Nicocoko  [author] 3 Sep, 2022 @ 11:14am
I had a look and the mod which causes problems is the "CDDA Reading". The way it is designed it doesn't work well with any other mod which changes reading functionality.
I recommend you to disable this mod and any other mod which increases the reading speed.

But if you really want to keep the functionality of CDDA Reading you could try to change the order in which my mod and CDDA Reading are loaded. In the main menu, first activate CDDA Reading and then my mod. Doing that, I could at least get the reading speed of my mod working. Whether CDDA Reading works as intended I don't know.

<part2>
does the xp from reading mod "CDDA Reading" or "CDDA Reading (No Mod Options)"
work with this ? i think thoses where the only other book related mods i attempted to use,

i tried a few of the speed reader mods in combination with CDDA reading i believe that might have been where i was screwing up (shrugs)

--- if that is the case and the speed reading doesn't work with them,
could i get your recommendation on if i should use a xp from reading mod, or stick with just this on its own <thanks boss>

p.s
sorry for the long winded wall of text lol

Since the version of the game didn't change, the Mod still works as expected. Please make sure that it is correctly installed.

You can give me more details and we can figure out why it currently doesn't work for you. Do you use it for singleplayer or multiplayer? Remember, that for multiplayer the mod has to be installed and configured on the server.

Other than that it could be a conflicting mod issue, even though the Mods footprint is quite small and should integrate well with most mods.
1stReaper 30 Aug, 2022 @ 6:19am
doesn't seem to be working, i even boosted the speed of reading up 1000.00

@Nicocoko Turns out i was an idiot and i had forgot to change the server setting to enable the mod

Thanks a lot!! It works perfect.:steamhappy:

I'm playing with this mod on multiplayer and it works as expected for me. (Now tested on version 41.73)

If this mod doesn't work for you I assume there is a problem with other mods you have installed. Other than that, if you add this mod to your server it should work right out of the box.
[:V] bolibompa 9 Aug, 2022 @ 3:50am
it dosent work on mp
Coldcat🌭 5 Aug, 2022 @ 9:16am
It works great
Nicocoko  [author] 23 Jul, 2022 @ 7:15am
@Hog1337:

I rechecked the functionality of this mod and everything works as expected (Singleplayer and multiplayer , current version 41.71)

Which part doesn't work for your? The increased reading speed or the increased consumption rates or neither? Are you using the mod in single player or multiplayer? Did you use the mod on a new game or did you add it to an existing game? Did you change any default values?

Of course incompatability with other mods could always be an issue. Feel free to post the mods you are using, especially the ones which have something to do with reading.

Keep also mind that for a mod to work on a multiplayer server it is not enough to activate it in the main menu but also needs to be added to the server's mod list.

Mb its just me, but it doesn't work

That is amazing thank you!
Nicocoko  [author] 28 Jun, 2022 @ 1:54pm
I have double checked the rates for hunger and thirst. They were really too high. Also the boredom rates were quite too low. The new update should balance the values.

Also in case people want to finetune each rate individually, you can now do that in the sandobox options.
kAzAAkAs 27 Jun, 2022 @ 3:33am
Cool, thanks so much, looking forward!
Nicocoko  [author] 26 Jun, 2022 @ 10:37am
Hi Sjaak, thanks for your feedback!

That's strange behaviour you are describing. I tested hunger and thirst outcomes back then and they matched the ones without mod. Let me double check and come back to you.

Regarding boredom, there really seems to be no additional boredom applied. Seems to be an outdated function call responsible for that.

You can expect necessary changes coming in the next days.
kAzAAkAs 24 Jun, 2022 @ 7:25pm
The scaled up calorie, thirst, hunger and boredom mechanics are a very good idea. Unfortunately, they scale way harder than the reading. Because of this, my older character died of hunger/thirst, and a newer one became massively overweight very quickly due to the disproportionately increased hunger.

This problem is easily proven as follows:

Play without the mod, keep starting a new character until you start in a home with a Vol.1 book, read the entire Vol.1 book immediately, once you are done, you will always be "Peckish" and "Slightly Thirsty"

Now play with the mod and do the same thing a above. You'll see that you are "Hungry" and "Thirsty" right after reading the book.

I'm not sure if the boredom scaleup works. My character never got bored, even while reading Vol.4 or Vol.5 books in one go.
Nicocoko  [author] 10 Apr, 2022 @ 4:11am
Depending on the size of the book hunger may increase significantly. Given a tier 1 book of 220 pages and you have absolutely no hunger, you would expect end up in the hungry state. If you are a slow reader and/or have increased hunger gain you could end up siginficantly more hungry. In essence, the mod should give you the same hunger as if you would read this book without any speed increase. Do you have the slow reader or heavy eater trait? I could double check on the hunger gains for your combination of traits.
TK423 8 Apr, 2022 @ 3:49pm
is this supposed to nuke hunger? read 2/3 of a book with this and go from completely full to maximum hunger
