Any plans to update the airport? The buildings are virtually on the runway. This limits the size of aircraft landing

This map is pretty good, but I notice that buildings throughout the town of Shwasana are too high up on their foundations. I suggest a second revision pass of this town to fix those.

I love the feel and performance of the map just too few MSR / ASR to run any sort of campaign on without massively leaning on choppers. Like a town with 7 story buildings only having a dirt track ingress feels a bit weird.

Hi Steven, sure. I personally believed it came down to class inheritance structure in my config for this terrain, but feel free to experiment with a fix and let me know how it goes. I've added you back.

Hi bud, I am working on a weather /sky mod for this terrain.I have noticed there is an error in the class overcast section.There are supposed to be 7 class entries but there are only 6.Also the order in which they are defined is a lil muddled due to Bis strange setup.I would say its the reason why other lighting weather mods are incompatible.I can post the classes to show ya if ya like.I have checked stratis and CAWorld and they are setup with the 7 classes.I have sent a friend request so we can talk m8.

for some reason when i load this map in Eden i get silent hill levels of fog and no amount of lowering it will fix. its all times of the day too.

Please fix:
For some terrain, the parameters "AIAvoidStance" and "grassCover" are not defined, which causes the AI to see through the grass.

All I can promise is that at some point, I'll likely rectify all of the issues with Niakala and give it the proper treatment it deserves, the map was made in about a month or so out of necessity for a group I play with.

I've learned a lot since its released, and I feel as if it's only appropriate that I bring it up to that quality standard.

Man, I did try to work on a large terrain addon. That was catastrophic mistake. I'll never even try it again as it requires immensely powerfull PC, a lot of storage space and patient counted in years. That's why I genuinely admire people involved in terrain making. That's why every large mistake on a map also makes me cry because it reminds me how much work may need to be done to fix it.

I love the terrain myself.I used to make terraiuns myself.Will prolly jump in again in A4.It sounds llike Nightintruder NEEDS to get into terrain making.All the advice given reminds me of downloading terrains years ago.You have to try it for yourself.Immensesly satisfying.

Haha, not at all! ;) But there are a few large terrains I like - Tanoa, Cam Lao Nam, various Chernorus versions, Isla Duala, Lingor, PKL, Vidda, etc. Hell, even if map doesn't have an airstrip, I can just make one with static objects and recently published deformer tool. I even made my own set of plain textures that can be assembled to portray a dirt landing strip. It just goes with higher performance costs than having native airstrip/airbase, built by terrain maker :)

And, yes. My opinion about this terrain is subjective, driven by my style of gameplay in A3. I am pretty sure, most of the players won't tell you any bad things about this terrain, because they neither are interested in the features I pointed out nor noticed them due to their gameplay style. There is nothing wrong with it, I guess. Simply because the terrain is already great for certain gameplay styles.

Airstrip/airfield does :) It is hard to fit one on smaller terrains and mostly such terrain is usually infantry/mechanized style oriented. Smaller terrains usually lack terrain features facilitating defense/INFIL-EXFIL maneuvers like hills, canyons, flat waters etc. I am more interested in large 20-40km terrains with several airstrips where air transportation of troops and supplies is required and seems to be a logical approach both, in real life and for gameplay purposes. It also helps with impressions that players are a part of larger than platoon-sized military operation.

If you don't mind suggestions, I would:
- remove the airbase and build there a dirt airstrip, a good example is both airstrips on Bozoum map by Sanchez (especially the north-eastern one). It can have adjanced military FOB so soldiers could use the strip as well. Connect the location with other villages as the army needs supplies.
- connect all roads to distinct terrain features (towns, villages, warehouses, etc). I'd do the same with electricity networks and their power sources.
- option: portray two typical Angolan rural settlements - one with hutts and the other with muddy houses. Especially the latter type is typically packed extremaly close all toghether.
Don't get me wrong, I like what I see so far. I would just love to play a perfect terrain if it's possible.
I saw Sa'hatra thread. The map seems more logically planned and executed but since I like flying, smaller maps aren't my cup of tea, tho :)

As for when that update is coming, I'm not entirely sure. I'm currently working on my next terrain, Sa'hatra, which is my most detailed and complex terrain to date. Information about that terrain can be found on BI's forums.

Thanks, you're right, the airfield was never how I exactly wanted it; and more importantly, was included out of outstanding request, something I've learn to not always accept when it simply doesn't work on a geographical or logistical level.

Niakala has a lot of issues that I wish to rectify. However, some limitations are through either the limited time I had (the terrain was made under a deadline) and for technical oversights that I had when I was less experienced at terrain making. I plan to push an EOL update for Niakala when I am finished with my current project, mostly to rectify or redesign things that were poorly executed.

I hope the author doesn't mind constructive criticism. The idea behind is to have the terrain improved.
Overall, mixed feelings come from this terrain to me. What it kinda fails at, IMHO, is realism. There are design mistakes with no connection to RL. A prominent example is an airbase, in the middle of nowhere. The layout of the base itself shows the lack of understanding of how aviation works. So, a lot of good work and a lot of work wasted as well, a kinda mix of good and bad impressions. I wish it had a few things improved because the terrain has a lot of potential and the author seems to be talented.
How to improve the terrain? Look at pictures of what things look like in real life and try to understand why it is like that or simply google the answer. Thank you for your hard work, anyway. I genuinely adore terrain addon makers as the amount of work required to create a terrain is immense and goes far beyond the work needed to create any other single addon.
