I did some research about how maps in the golden age of the gaming where designed--really paid off.

My "formula":
- Lots of turns, curves, loops, twists, and other interesting shapes
- Rewards for completing challenges
- Averaging of the skill gap by giving all players the same gun and defensive areas
- Destructible things
- Safe guards for mistakes
- Separation of players
- Jumps that can be made without using r + l click spamming
