I'll add that giving Pyro anything made of wood and NOT include scorch-marks doesn't make a whole lot of sense, considering their profession.
That also leaves room for the stain pot, sanding block, unfinished wood blocks, whittling tools, or even the belt itself to be painted.
I do not have the technical skill to make these things, but I can fully commit to a concept if I am working with the right people.
Do not doubt the viability of the people you critique just because you think they're boogeymen out to haunt you and your posts.
A tool-belt with a set of pockets, each containing different whittling tools and uncarved or partially carved pieces of wood. You could also include a pocket for a small bottle of stain or a sanding block, but the general gist is a toolbelt specifically filled with whittling/carving tools and materials.
The small, unfinished blocks also allow for a tad of creativity, with an unfinished whittled Dispenser or a small carving of a sentry, hell you could even have the half-finished head of the original item.
Right off the bat, I'd try to retool the idea from a completed item on the shoulder to a piece of clothing or miscellaneous item that shows it being a part of the merc's lifestyle.
I'd narrow the item down to being an Engineer only item, since crafting/building/engineering is his entire schtick. Engineer has a lot of pocket items already that work with this theme, so aligning the item with that thinking wouldn't be too far off.
If you have good ideas and intentions for the workshop, I suggest you don't burn bridges and act like a child with every creator you see.
Read the room, don't start pointing back at it and start yelling about how they should try to do what your doing better. It's embarrassing.
Clearly you've got a better idea of what the community wants than we do, so why waste your time complaining to us when you can do it yourself?
funny item on shoulder!

It's well made but I wouldn't want it in a case. It'd be something I would take two of and re-craft into a random drop hat. Try something people would want to wear practically.
