If you're up for a challenge, copy the mod locally, then go to your documents/Teardown/mods folder and find the rocket script. Okay with the PID variables and see what they do. The numbers are somewhat tuned, but you can learn about what PID closed loop control does. Also it depends on the thrust amount- the most stability comes from finding the sweet spot depending on how much weight you're trying to push.

@cenobytecode, first of all, I friggen love Hellraiser, second, the booster can only attach at the top. if you want to strap them on the sides pointing down ... hmmm ... attach planks. Should stick to those. The planks become the pylons. The booster will attempt to maintain the same attitude after that point. Also remember: if you put them on the ground or anywhere and then put something on top, pressing M will magnetize it to the thing sitting on it. I saw a guy launch the lighthouse by attaching the engine to an internal ceiling.

Is attach point only on the top? Can't seem to get it to attach properly to the lighthouse. Need to send that thing into space...reasons are classified :D

I see. And yeah, I bet it's hard getting hovering control to work. I know this is a game but mind you, you're basically programming what actuall rocket engineers program. It's gonna be hard. But it's already impressive to say the least. :steamthumbsup:

Oh, and I've been trying to get the whole hovering control working but holy cow it's hard. Whenever I gimble for lateral translation it gets unstable. I need the right set of control algorithms working on it to keep it from flying away on me or slamming into the ground. This week on on vacation though so my ability to work on that is limited.

@Poo man hding down the targeting button let's you choose a "target" for the booster to immediately launch at. It doesn't always hit it (in fact it does a fairly shit job at hitting it) but if you don't want to launch something into a building without wanting to orient the booster on that line it'll do the job.

@Poo man that is correct. Gim le control was a first step. That lets you attach boosters to things and (attempt) to keep the original attitude. You can see what happens when you turn the gimbal off by setting the max angle to 0. With gimbal I should be able to fly-to/hover-to waypoints.

@Poo man not a joke! I want two things: to make the booster attachable to stuff as a missile and for a starship style landing capability. The vision is being able to fly something around in a circle and land it somewhere else.
