has incompatibilities with clicker class?

works good. one bug i found is if you go into the cursor menu built into terraria, a ghost cursor appears behind your cursor. i think maybe just grey it out when the mod is enabled since you don't need it at all.

I couldn't get it to work on Mac. The cursor should no longer be invisible, but there's no point using this mod on Mac.

Best quality of life mod there is. Thanks a ton!
Is there any way to get it working with vanilla as well?
By the way: using the term hardware cursor might help with search-ability; it took a while to find this.

Very nice works fine for me on Linux using Hyprland and native Wayland Terraria

I tested with a mod that uses a custom cursor (Terraria Overhaul)
It just displays that cursor, with no border, under the native system cursor.
----------
No errors or anything, just slightly distracting.
Just change the cursor color to white or something to make it less distracting.
This mod is semi-compatible with other mods that change the cursor.

This mod is great. I make custom Windows cursors, static and animated.
1 problem: Settings menu has the default cursor background present.
=====
I would like it if these other native operating system cursors were also included:
----------
-Help Select
-Location Select
-Person Select
-Working in Background
-Busy
-Handwriting

One thing I've just noticed is that the large bright green cursor may be slightly offset compared to the other cursors (or at least the large gold). I'm still liking these cursors quite a lot though.
Admiral Billy 17 Sep, 2023 @ 9:22pm
Yep, those ones do the trick. Thanks! I never really have an issue with my cursor with normal desktop usage, but Terraria certainly gets chaotic.

I've added some larger and brighter custom cursors as well as a large cursor preset. Note that you can also set your own cursor in Windows settings and it will be used in game.

Changed to client-side only
apul 17 Sep, 2023 @ 10:29am
Great mod and seems to be one of a kind too with the Optimized Cursor possibly not being updated anymore, just had a suggestion like said earlier - would be great if this was marked as a client sided mod, so one could freely use it without forcing everyone on the server to have it.

This is a simple change and I've been playing with it (downloaded your source code and made the change to test it out) just fine, all it'd need is to add the following line in build.txt:
side = Client
Adding that made it a proper client-only mod for me and I could use it on our server without needing to add it to the server (if it's a normal mod like it is now, joining a server without it unloads the mod)

I can concur, having a cursor that actually matches my refresh rate is lovely but on a 1440p screen the default system cursor pretty easily gets lost; just being able to scale the cursors in general would help a lot I think, but color options and such would also help of course.
Chaz 12 Aug, 2023 @ 2:31am
Love this mod. Any chance we could get a higher visibility custom cursor? I've been using the Custom Smart cursor as my main, but it still gets easily lost while playing. Maybe something similar to the default terraria cursor (thicker border, bright red). Thank you :wnheart:
Async Void 1 Aug, 2023 @ 8:08pm
would be nice if I could use it on a server with a friend
Async Void 1 Aug, 2023 @ 8:08pm
why is this mod server sided too?
sxshi 15 Jul, 2023 @ 2:09pm
amazing mod so far, i was getting so sick and tired of the calamity cursor and had no idea how to properly change it without one of them remaining the same. W
ALBIE 2 Jul, 2023 @ 5:34am
you should add an option to just use the default terraria cursors

One of the best mods on the workshop just got a contextual cursors update!?

Can't wait to try it :GiveHug:
.  [author] 8 Jan, 2023 @ 2:50am
I've added some custom cursors for smart cursor, quick trash, etc. Only tested on Windows though. Source code is also in the description now.
G-t01l3t. 3 Jan, 2023 @ 3:37pm
Agree with Nordblum!

Been using Native Cursor for awhile now and it's dope - it actually IMPROVES performance.

But... I know Windows handles how it changes the cursor in a specific way and I'm not sure if it can be as simple as something like coding the cursor to change to different native Pointers when the Terraria hotkeys for Auto-Select Tool, Favourite, Trash etc are used...sounds like a nightmare.

If it is possible though that would be insane as I already have a Pointers Scheme set ready.
Nordblum 2 Jan, 2023 @ 6:48am
It would be fantastic if there would be a way to switch to a different native cursor when switching cursor modes. There are already some build-in cursors that kinda look like 1) smart cursor 2) trash mode 3) favorite mode 4) chat share mode.
G-t01l3t. 30 Dec, 2022 @ 7:26am
@Robobee you probably found the answer by now, but if you didn't, easiest way to know is turn on Tile Grid, aside from that you're in the wild/ use placement preview
XanderPaq 1 Nov, 2022 @ 5:18pm
How would I know if I am using the smart cursor?
DodgeEXTRA 29 Oct, 2022 @ 8:23pm
The mod works, but the mouse has a flickering problem even when the mouse is idle. Could be due to a high refresh-rate screen, since nothing seems to be causing the problem other than how Terraria handles the cursor.
LimeSlime 19 Oct, 2022 @ 4:13am
this saved my ass fr fr, i tried turning off vsync in the nvidia controlpanel, i tried literally everything the internet had to offer and im not understating it. nothing worked. this managed to dodge the problem thank you
