is this still a thing in 2025?
Mr Scruffles 22 Apr, 2024 @ 9:53am
I think the latest patch fixed it
Vassago Rain 20 Oct, 2022 @ 6:23am
He's saying he wants the game to be fixed, or you to magically fix CC's code.

@pink.noise.chick; Are you saying that this mod crashes on you? If so, where and how?
pink.noise.chick 16 Oct, 2022 @ 5:44pm
MAKE A FIXED VERSION WITHOUT CRASH
White and Birdy™  [author] 3 Oct, 2022 @ 12:33pm
@Paynamia; It's not a visual effect, no. I've been in contact with someone on ModDB who actually managed to debug the issue, and it's a code problem.

On that note, anyone who needs this mod to play the game: I'd appreciate it if you could contribute to this thread. Getting a list of the hardware afflicted by this issue would be useful. Cheers!
Paynamia 1 Oct, 2022 @ 9:11pm
Interesting, I'm on an AMD GPU and and CPU and never had this issue. Is it possible a visual effect, like maybe the shackle glow or something, is causing the crash?

@ Vassago Rain
Huh, that's obviously quite the range.
Vassago Rain 1 Oct, 2022 @ 6:41am
@Migz - DH
I've had it crash on everything from budget intel atom netbooks to xeon workstations. It's definitely an issue, and their insistence that they can't replicate it makes me sad.
Gordon Freemouse 24 Sep, 2022 @ 5:04pm
Working even for non AMD
Thank you very much !!
Migz - DH 13 Sep, 2022 @ 9:47pm
Thanks for the effort you took to create this workaround. :BL3Thumbsup:
Out of curiosity, did anyone compile a list of affected CPUs that this crash occurred on?

Well done!

After further investigation, many fenced in areas with vorts risk becoming unsolvable, like the first pillar climb in c4a3b1. If, for whatever reason, one of the vorts in the cable puzzle gets mad at the player, replacement vorts from the doors will also be hostile, and this goes on until the player's lost the war of attrition.
tl;dr don't harm the vorts.
classic gamer 4 Sep, 2022 @ 10:42pm
Anyway, the one thing I found kind of questionable was the decision to cut the horror tone out of on a rail and xen that the original had.
classic gamer 4 Sep, 2022 @ 10:40pm
Ok. I was hopping for the environmental storytelling and combat ( the alien controllers controlling vorts and new alien grunt AI) to be explored more then all those segments. This is kind of what I thought that would be more of that kind of thing.

@Emmanuel Kunt - As Vassago says, unfortunately (fortunately?) it's not as simple as there being too much stuff going on. I threw together a test box map when trying to figure out what was going on that was basically as small as it could possibly be - a few buttons and logic entities to spawn Xorts/Xontrollers, some supplies, etc.
Results were inconsistent - sometimes all it took was one hostile Xort to crash the game, other times I was able to have a dozen or so (plus a few Xontrollers) at once before things crashed.

There seems to be something wrong with the Xort specifically, somehow - Xontrollers work fine, they're still in use in this mod, and even though Earthbound Vorts are supposedly using the same AI as Xorts as of 1.0/1.5, I've never once seen the game crash because of them alone.

@jakestritty - Don't hold your breath. Cutting chapters *down* isn't part of BMSC's goal. I haven't fully committed to anything for Interloper yet, but I'm more likely to try and vary things up than I am to cut out whole sections of it.
One thing I do want to explore later, as a separate project, is a "retro"-style Interloper, though, based off of the Xen Museum concepts. I think there's some really interesting stuff that could be done with the more HL1-esque Interloper from that.
Vassago Rain 22 Aug, 2022 @ 1:55pm
Emanuel Kunt@
More stuff in this case, doesn't equal more chance of crashing. Even if you hide far from the level with noclip, it'll eventually crash in the vanilla version, and this is so far the only real way to minimize the crashing.
Immanuel Kunt 21 Aug, 2022 @ 1:12pm
The main issue I've seen is that there's too much crap going on on-screen and this is what crashes the game. Absolutely unacceptable that CC won't fix this because they don't feel like it, as if this is SpongeBob working at the Chum Bucket. What I think is a pretty okay workaround is immediately use the long-jump module to jump down to ground level. You won't see everything the Controllers and mind-controlled Vortigaunts are doing, so you will drastically reduce the chances of a crash.

This cannot be overstated how not okay this is. Crowbar Collective, FIX YOUR GAME. As amazing as this game is, a major release CANNOT have game-breaking bugs like this that just crash the game, this is worse than amateur, this is unprofessional. You are not done with this game as long as major errors like this are not addressed.
Saxton Hale's left ass cheek 15 Aug, 2022 @ 11:10am
didn't crash on me. So idk how to do it.
Rekttryhards 15 Aug, 2022 @ 8:19am
@SourceCode don't base your pc specs off one issue in one game. I have an amd cpu (5800x) and don't have any issues. if you have any issues get this mod
classic gamer 14 Aug, 2022 @ 3:43pm
Can you make a bmsc for xen that cuts the plug puzzle section and the entire convayer belt section with the shields and what not. I found most of the chapter was actually worse then original and was an unplayable chore. Cutting 90 percent of the puzzles and exploring the combat will actually make xen interloper fun along side showing the true potential of the new game-play mechanics that went with it.
Crash_Trooper 12 Aug, 2022 @ 3:00pm
what is that vortiguant reskin it looks cool
Dr. SourceCode 9 Aug, 2022 @ 7:21pm
hi, im getting a new computer soon, what specs can I get so I can bypass the issue?
Shrek 2 for Nintendo GameCube 9 Aug, 2022 @ 4:43am
thanks!
White and Birdy™  [author] 8 Aug, 2022 @ 6:54pm
Oh, my bad. That'd be this mod. There's a version of it with the HD sleeves here, too.
Shrek 2 for Nintendo GameCube 8 Aug, 2022 @ 5:32pm
I was asking about the classic heart monitors on the gloves in the screenshots including the Gluon Gun and Tau Cannon.
White and Birdy™  [author] 8 Aug, 2022 @ 3:32pm
Vassago - Cheers, I'll give them a look when I get the chance. Sorry for being AWOL for so bloody long, this year's been really stupid and I just haven't had the energy to socialize properly. Soon, hopefully.

Shrek 2 - V2 of Chris' HD-styled sleeves. You can find them here. I've also got support for my own weapon models in my own uploads.

Grady - No, it's not. It does have some minor fixes that'll be present in BMSC Interloper, and I'll be using this mod as a basis when I get to Interloper, but other than that (and some slight reworking of one encounter to make it work well) this is vanilla Interloper.
Colonel Orange 8 Aug, 2022 @ 1:13pm
I'll be sure to try this later
C1TY 8 Aug, 2022 @ 10:51am
is this BMS classic chapter 17?
Shrek 2 for Nintendo GameCube 8 Aug, 2022 @ 5:43am
What gloves did you use for the screenshots?
Vassago Rain 8 Aug, 2022 @ 3:18am
See my messages for a debrief. This 100% fixes the crashing, for both AMD and intel, but introduces new, minor problems.
