It's an interesting idea to make it perk. If multiple characters can have the perk, then that means multiple characters can each be a game over condition.

Is there any chance of instead implementing it as a Trait (or something that's not a perk but a Trait is the only alternative I can think of right now) and allowing the player to choose whom to grant the Trait at the start of the campaign? That way if the player would like the commander to not be a soldier of the Commander class (for example a commander Psi Op), they could do so easily. A perk is technically available to any class, but that would either require getting lucky and rolling the perk or needing to replace a perk in existing class trees.

The idea is to attempt to make it target soldiers with a certain passive ability to confirm that they survive and if that is the case it will be added to both my own perk pack (Knox's Perk Pack) and added to this class.

I haven't looked up how to do this for a while, but with me coming back to work on projects, this is something I want to do.

That would be so awesome. To this day, I haven't found a mod on the workshop that gives a game over condition when a character (presumably a commander character/main character) dies. Ideally, I think this idea should be synthesizing this idea with Starting Soldiers mod so that you're guaranteed to start with this main character and also to allow the main character to be any class, not necessarily the Commander class.

To compensate and to encourage deployment of the commander despite the risk, I guess the commander can have some extra abilitie(s) that affects the entire deployed squad.

Yep found it,sorry about the bother,Cloista new classes add focus to psionic skills for its classes,but it seem to affect everyone else too,so stasis ask 2 focus for any class using it,basically locking it lol,reported it to him

This likely is an issue with another mod instead of this one, the Stasis used for this class is the Base Game one, so there may be a mod that you have that might be overwriting Stasis in some sort of way.

A reason why trying to use Stasis would tell me "Insufficient focus"? It doesn't seem to need any nor indicate that in the desc,and I have 2/2 when trying to use it,but the bar blink red as if I do miss some,do I miss something or I need like 3 bars and its not said?

An alternative for the improve morale ability, would be that they restore will instead of just gaining flat 25 will. There's a mod out there that makes it so whenever a soldier kills an enemy theres a chance to restore a bit of will so maybe this mod can use it aswell?

Aaah I getcha: basically the game thinks they can lose more will because they 'havent lost 33% yet with the bonus there' and then afterwards takes off the 25% bonus will.. bringing the total lost well under 33%.

Yeah, those numbers would look about right with what I've seen...

Not sure if that's what it is, but a good theory. Does make the ability.. less than stellar to use if true.

@Findanniin Thanks for providing more information, over my time working on my mods I've had less time to fully field test all abilities as I often just start working on a new project before actually getting to play the game myself, so part of this is on me.

I've seen sources that state units can only lose 33% of their will in a mission, but I haven't experienced this myself, there is a chance that due to the bonus being a statbonus, it still applies the negative even past the will-loss cap. (If a unit has 50 base will and they lost the +25 bonus, it might simply apply those losses past the cap, will need to test if this is true though).

I'll do some testing on my own to see if I can replicate the issue, but unless a solution is found, unfortunately there isn't much I can do.

I'm pretty sure that - at least for me, can't speak to others - that isn't the case.

None of the units I took were tired, for example, and after the mission, 4 units were shaken.

Is it possible the ability overrides the normal 'max will lost / mission from revealing units' somehow post mission?

None of the units were poisoned or mind controlled or otherwise subject to fiercer will penalties than standard that would cause them to go from normal will (not sure if max, but definitely above tired) straight to shaken.

I don't believe I run any other mods that influence how will recovery would work (other than maybe some of the Requiem enemies because God knows how some of those work).

Additionally Will loss is based off enemy density, so activating more pods lowers Will. I'll still investigate for any issue, but it appears to be less of the ability not working and more of how the Will system was set up.

@Findanniin From a bit of investigation, how "Improve Morale" works is that it applies a straight +25 Will Bonus to your character. When ending a tactical, it applies the Will loss during the tactical to your character and since you don't have the +25 when ending the mission, you lose Will

If you lost 3 will in tactical, even though you'll still have +22 bonus left, it still applies the -3 out of tactical, making your unit lose Will. This should by why your Will for your units are tanking after tacticals.

In short, any Will loss earned in the mission is still applied to the character out of mission (even if you have the bonus still), but immediate effects it might have in the mission wont apply. Will affects Mind Control (both sending and receiving), panic checks, and Bleedout chance.

Honestly, using Psionics Ex Machina, it's a "do you want to deal with shaken units after the mission to get another cast of something" button this way, I guess - where the answer to that question is 'no' *most* times... Until moving two squares into cover reveals 2 pods of enemies with your second to last unit...

Improve morale has the exact same issue @Elon Blunt described below - gives a boost mid mission, then absolutely tanks it afterwards.

I think the Improve Morale ability is bugged as every mission I use it, the soldiers will after the mission drops like crazy. The game is supposed to cap will loss per mission at 33% but my squad frequently loses over 50%. I just did a FLAWLESS mission, with only like ~18 enemies, no Chosen, no Ruler, no Lost, and my reaper went from 45 to 0.

yeah it works fine, i'm asking if you could make it compatible by allowing the commander class to be equivalent to high ranking officer via XComAbiziOTS.ini by allowing to identify soldiers as officers for the purpose of officer requirements

@TrooperCoon According to the description of that mod, abizi states it should work with all class mods. Additionally, I see nothing of the sort that might prevent this from working, but I can't confirm anything.

@Mae I believed a rebuild wasn't required, but it is, if you haven't already, type "RebuildSelectedSoldiersClass" with Additional Soldier Console Commands.

Even after the most recent update, I'm noticing I'm unable to swap out the PCS on my Commander after she hit max rank. The option is grayed out, and it says she's "insufficient rank". Is it possible this has anything to do with Brigadier rank not being in the base-game? I was able to swap out the PCSs just fine before this promotion.

@RustyDios I can confirm that the class has an eStat_CombatSims set to 1. Additionally, I didn't know that removing the base-game ranger would make the PCS not work, I should check that, thanks.

Either the class is missing at least one point in the eStat_CombatSims, or the user has completely removed the base-game ranger from the game (as yes, dumb as it is, the code actually refers to the Ranger class in part of a cross-check)

help guys, cant use PSC on this mod same problem with rocketeer, option is greyed out and telling that soldier insuficient rank or something like that? anyone had this problem? any solutions?

If there is no issues, you likely aren't missing anything. Considering the note is at the bottom of Chimera Squad Icons, that is likely why I failed to see that. I believe the only thing that would actually need this would be the non-hero classes I made since they don't use any of the perks in that pack; it was simply just habit when I would make the other classes.

TLDR: You aren't missing anything, I'm dumb and never noticed that note on Chimera Squad Icons Requirement.

On Chimera Squad ability Icons page Mitzruti writes "The exact same UPK is present in Mitzruti Perk Pack, so if you're already using that you won't also need this." Why is Chimera a standalone requirement if this is the case? I've not downloaded it separately when using your mods? What am I missing here?

Looking back on the code, I don't know why I originally added Proficiency Skirmisher to the required list, it has nothing required in the mod, must have been something I was working on at that time.

In short: You should be fine without it since it doesn't appear to require it (and thus has been removed from requirements)

If you don't use Proficiency Skirmisher you should lose a couple AWC abilities and the grapple provided by "Psionic Extraction" might not work, otherwise it will likely work without it. After I complete the current project I'm on, I'll start working on Non-Proficiency updates for all of the Hero Classes.

I am not big on the proficiency hero classes. What part of this class relies on the Proficiency Skirmisher, specifically, that having the base (or Alpha's Skirmisher) installed will break?

If that is truly the issue, the only way I can think of to fix it is to do something similar to what Iridar did with his Bounty Hunter and make them trained from Covert Actions

The GTS usually only allows 1 soldier to be trained. I'm assuming you are running a mod that allows the GTS to train more than 1 soldier at a time?

@Knox I have been able to train a third commander after putting two rookies into training as commanders.
