I really hope you continue development of this mod, I am currently using it in conjunction with WHIPS Subgrid Wheel Controller Script and I love it. So far no issues, but have only just started creating a new train world around this mod.

Suggestion for the future IF and only IF you feel up to it, but a few variations of steam engine locomotion trucks, that would tickle my fancy so much. You do awesome work!

I like trains.

The track gauge is too broad. Trains can fall off 1 of the rails whille standing on the other rail, something like falling down in between the rails.
HUBERT THE ROCK 26 Nov, 2023 @ 3:53pm
im stuck going at 13m/s
Mr_Bones20 18 Nov, 2023 @ 9:21am
does this still get updates?
RustyOsprey2 22 Oct, 2023 @ 3:47pm
Add curved tracks pwease

(it also goes without saying that this is an amazing mod I hope to include in my 'must haves' one day.)

Request:
Single rail blocks. Not in the vein of a monorail, but rather, just 1/2 of the rails that are already in the mod. I'm trying to handle corners using stationary sub-grids rotated 15 degrees to once side or another. Naturally the rails fail to meet up smoothly. However, I think a 1x1x1 rail block that's only the left or the right rail would, in combination with precision placement, allow me to create functional corners.
DartTimeTime 30 Jul, 2023 @ 3:44pm
Pros:
*when it works its really nice.
*Smooth acceleration, and decent braking.

cons:
*Its a little too hard to place cars on the tracks.
*Its a little too easy to get a car stuck in a straight track.

Thoughts: I think the wheels themselves need to be reshaped a little. Its quite hard to place a car on the tracks and have both wheels land on the tracks themselves. Usually (for me) one side falls a little lower than the other and the car comes to rest, tilted to the left or the right.

When I do, It's nice until I come to a stop. Its less that I stopped, and more that I got stuck in the middle of a 15m piece of track. Seemingly on nothing. My hunch is that the wheels are sliding off.
(I set the friction to 25%. I places the suspensions 3 blocks apart.)

Curves??
Rusted Droid 20 Apr, 2023 @ 1:24pm
SE still missing propper mechanical contraptions. Rails is one of them.
This mod is great on current SE engine posibility. KeeN lack programing skills to make something like this, with more stable simulation and maybe without need to stress Havok engine by rotating complex shapes.
Halcyon 7 Apr, 2023 @ 4:11pm
Ive noticed that the wheels have a tendency to slip between the rails, not enough to derail, but its a noticable angle that might cause problems if you start adding more complex track pieces like curves and switches

Me: - dies from getting hit by a train
Wolfsandwich123 11 Jan, 2023 @ 4:53pm
How do I get my train to go?
E 25 Dec, 2022 @ 11:33am
keen needs to add train parts cuz why not
it would be so much easier building elevators and trams
John Bee  [author] 14 Dec, 2022 @ 12:15am
its that easy
Ruetecko 13 Dec, 2022 @ 6:37pm
It's a really good mod idea, however, clearly it needs a little more tweaking. I recommend the following.

-Switching track blocks. You can build a whole thing that rotates your train and cargo, but it's annoying after a little bit.
-making the train wheels act like train wheels and not like normal wheels.
- I also think wheels should be stronger tied to the rails themselves to prevent derailing by mistake.

good mod though, beats doing it the hard way.
Aer0Whiskers 28 Nov, 2022 @ 3:02pm
Man this is remarkable mod, I cant wait to see it how it evolves in the future!
Wellen 3 Nov, 2022 @ 5:04pm
I like what I see, and look forward to the hinged track idea, do you plan to model railway ties for the rails as well so it looks like there actually connected?
rkirk395 2 Nov, 2022 @ 11:04pm
this looks great, I'm going to use this in my worlds! (Even though, in my opinion, they should be called "galaxies" since a world is a planet.)
ostlandr 31 Oct, 2022 @ 7:23pm
Looking forward to trying this out! I compared SE to Minecraft in my review, and I have spent a ridiculous amount of time (and iron) building a network of minecart tracks in my MC world.

Going to try a turntable to make trains "turn corners." Basically a track with a rotor under it. Might need to make a slightly shorter rail block (will give it a try myself) to avoid collision with the turntable. This may finally push me into modding. If a character or regular wheeled vehicle can traverse a slope, then a railroad should be able to. Might need two hinges between cars.
starmind 29 Oct, 2022 @ 10:53am
I made a similar but more ground testing basic mod, and could not figure out any way for curved rails so i stopped the development, if author have a look (so to my mods) maybe he could found few ideas for this one as i also love train and would be happy to see a way to build a full railway loop / world with up / down / left / right rails instead just a direct line and without script :p
joe1945 24 Oct, 2022 @ 3:44pm
Trying to make nice curves and slope but suffering badly, can someone please help or are there curved and sloped tracks planned for the future maybe switch tracks / points. Really cool mod always needed this, I wonder if we could get possibly 5x5 wheels by any chance.
robster20022002 15 Oct, 2022 @ 7:05am
been testing this mod out, but i keep running into an issue where the train stuff i make is slanted but looks straight and the wheels dont seem to keep inside the tracks very nicely which leads to them derailing after like 10 large blocks (about 25 metres).
anyone know of a way to deal with this?
robster20022002 14 Oct, 2022 @ 5:40pm
im going to guess at yes, but they may have a hard time pulling things vertically (and would need something to keep them attached, say thrusters pushing them into the track or multiple sets of tracks)
so you might want to look at something to help with vertical movement
Soulinor 13 Oct, 2022 @ 2:13pm
Can i use it on vertical?
EnjoyCoke 11 Oct, 2022 @ 10:03am
I like trains :D
Myst Leissa 9 Oct, 2022 @ 3:33pm
Is there any way to get a "magic" Non-derailing version j/c?
Emp_MingMing 19 Sep, 2022 @ 9:32pm
The wheels seem to fail under high weight even if you increase the strength of the wheel i had 4 trailers on a train and it started slipping off the track
John Bee  [author] 19 Sep, 2022 @ 1:15am
no amount of wheel faff will solve the collision limitation with corners
Arkolis 18 Sep, 2022 @ 7:20pm
Yep on your wheel you have two collision meshes, one a cylinder that is rather thin, another that looks like an ico sphere. I think it would be easier to do corners (with actual meshes instead of connectors) if that inner cylinder collider has a bit larger diameter. What I was finding is that its not clipping the collider correctly and ramping off the collider instead. Just a thought.
John Bee  [author] 18 Sep, 2022 @ 2:38am
inner wheel collision?
Arkolis 18 Sep, 2022 @ 12:34am
Would it be possible for you to make your inner wheel collision mesh larger without impacting the wheels usage? I was playing with making corners and I found that if the inner wheel collision is a bit larger it won't ramp over as much. I can send you my files if you want to try.
Green_Lightning 13 Sep, 2022 @ 5:29pm
That looks cool, how will it go around turns?
John Bee  [author] 12 Sep, 2022 @ 10:44pm
There's no way to do that, you just need to be more careful placing it
Doomgoose 12 Sep, 2022 @ 5:21pm
When placing wheels (even the test map train), the wheels are a tad narrow for the rail track gauge, and can "slip" into between the two tracks. Would it be possible to have a method to control offset laterally (how far wheel extends "out" of the axle hub), or a slight adjustment to gauge of the tracks to accomodate this? SE physics don't work like real world physics, unfortunately, to properly center and balance the wheel arc to the rail gauge.
Rusted Droid 11 Sep, 2022 @ 3:28pm
@RandaSpread I only need something that hold lift cab in place durring up and down.
That is why i ask if i need adjust second bogie with piston when i build lift rails.
For moving UP/DN i use gear blocks from other mod as i can stop at exact gear rotation.
jushdrug 11 Sep, 2022 @ 1:38pm
how about straight tracks that have just the ends cut to get them relatively flush at 15° angels with hinges without colliding. (up down left right) and maybe even left and right roll compensate planet curvature at off angles.
SilentKnight 10 Sep, 2022 @ 6:10pm
Also, Switch tracks when?
SilentKnight 10 Sep, 2022 @ 6:06pm
Any plans to allow for track to be placed on either a single block, or across 3 blocks? Building a turntable with Even layout is really annoying, too many pistons to line it up properly
rowly6798 10 Sep, 2022 @ 1:41pm
yer no just me being dumb just changed them to inverted steering.

was in creative using mirror mode and it got me a bit confused lmfa
John Bee  [author] 10 Sep, 2022 @ 9:09am
wdym mirrored set of wheels? they already can mirror fine
rowly6798 10 Sep, 2022 @ 8:58am
could you plz make a mirrored set off wheels
Allmybase411 9 Sep, 2022 @ 6:48pm
I do now...
rowly6798 9 Sep, 2022 @ 3:45pm
but thanks

absolute epic mod 100/10
rowly6798 9 Sep, 2022 @ 3:44pm
i got it to work really well by connecting 2 1 long rails to 10 rails and back to 2 1 long rails that where both angled but 20ms was about as fast as i could go safely hope that made sense
EnjoyCoke 9 Sep, 2022 @ 11:31am
This is freaking amazing tho
John Bee  [author] 9 Sep, 2022 @ 11:02am
same method as curves, just on its side
rowly6798 9 Sep, 2022 @ 10:59am
it takes time but using hinges to curve works fine just slow down a bit or you will derail how ever im am finding change in elevation a pit tricky so if anyone has some advice plz help
