Containers, H2 gens and other functional blocks being used as conveyors is for efficiency purpose c= so that the ship has as much of those functionalities as possible without spending too much PCU on conveyors

Railguns do use a lot of power, but that's why there are many batteries in the ship which should suffice for the railguns to last for a whole fight

As for the container vs conveyor strength it won't matter much because all the ammo of the artillery turrets are kept directly under the turrets in the cargo containers below the turrets themselves x3
