I did recently find a different mod that apparently just directly forces the selection instead of rapid cycling till you get what you want, but I never got around to testing it...
I cannot recreate it however. It used to happen until we restarted our computers, then everything was fixed. I know what you are talking about. If you can replicate this issue consistently, please share.
It might be a mod compatibility issue. We never had this in our multiplayer playthrough.
What happened was a major skill issue on my end.
If you have Discord, raise this issue to the tModLoader devs so they can have this looked.
it has so far no updates yet regarding this issue.

that way in prehardmode the max minion slots would go from 5->8 with obsidian armor and 6->9 with bee armor, while having to sacrifice 36% minion damage. this would make it worthwhile but still not being catastrophic, although im not exactly sure because i obviosuly havent tested it. with 8% in hardmode this makes it still worth getting because the extra minion slots you get would make the damage reduction outweigh the increased minion slots, only making the damage reduction 24% while increasing the max minion slots from 11->14, which i guess isnt actually that worth it but excluding summoner potions which are annoying to get and maybe swapping out one of the summoner accessories for, say, a soaring insignia, i could see the reforges having their use.
