Probably just tries to pay homage to the Splatoon 2's Hero Shot, which is literally a P90.
The Project Splatoon 3 also got a charger and a pair of dualies that are based on the Barrett M95 and Luger P08 pistol as well in its concept arts.

Also I think it's not really "underrated" lol, as I still remember that it was basically the de facto "Splatoon 3 concept" back in the days around 2019 to 2020, it's just that the real Splatoon 3 is a thing now.

Well this one it's a fan-made concept, and so far it's only Splatoon 2's Hero Shot that's looks like a real gun like P90.
(And maybe to an extent, Splatoon 1's Hero Charger, which it kinda looks like an AR/M4.

Guess Nintendo's design team got tired of trying to come up with unique weapon designs and just used RL guns for inspiration especially when they look like paintball guns.

I just like how Nintendo decided to model some weapons on real life ones. Lowkey hoping we get Splatoon tanks!
