Turns out, the best solutions are the simplest ones. Enjoy!

Ya'll are jumping the gun, it takes time to get the arm to follow the shake correctly.
Vassago Rain 11 Oct, 2022 @ 10:37am
Maybe have him hold it using both hands when secondary fire's triggered?
Florys 9 Oct, 2022 @ 11:58pm
you may have to have him brace the gauss gun with his other hand earlier while charging it, because when you charge it up and fire it early on instead of taking longer to charge it, it looks like his other hand just magically flies on the screen out of nowhere because of the hand only beginning to brace it way later on into the charge, other than that though this works really well

Holy Jesus you actually fixed that loop bug! Huge props my man!
Vassago Rain 9 Oct, 2022 @ 1:49am
Now it looks like a classic sci-fi blaster pistol, which might have been what they were going for back in 1998.

I'm working on adding the left hand bracing the back of the gun during the spin animation, and once the overcharge happens, he recoils the hand and shakes the pain off. In due time, no ETA on this one.
Vassago Rain 6 Oct, 2022 @ 2:21am
Much better. I'd like it if the second hand still featured somehow, like the tau was held by a stocked pistol, as I've mentioned in the comments below, but this is sufficient.

People are still modding this game? Hell yeah
+1

Update if you find something interesting (about the looping bug)
thatmoodyguy  [author] 29 Sep, 2022 @ 2:44pm
Really? I may look into the animations if that's the case. Although, even I admit, doing an alt-fire charge blast with such low Tau ammo probably wouldn't be something I'd do in any regular playthroughs
finlandslim 29 Sep, 2022 @ 2:11pm
Yep, happens with vanilla as well. For a;l the praise this game gets, the fact such critical bugs are not fixed is crazy. Funny thing is the 2012 mod verision doesn't have this bug.
thatmoodyguy  [author] 29 Sep, 2022 @ 1:54pm
I don't believe so. That seems to be an issue with the Tau Cannon in general, as it also happens with the vanilla model.
finlandslim 29 Sep, 2022 @ 12:54pm
Is there a way to fix infinite loop when charging with 2 ammo left?
AgrestⒸ 25 Sep, 2022 @ 6:43am
Finally.

Also, I dunno where you're getting the no sideways bobbing thing, as the animations Juniez's pack uses are edited vanilla ones, with the general posing of the arms being changed, but the motions are still largely the same.
thatmoodyguy  [author] 19 Sep, 2022 @ 10:55am
The draw animation issue is now fixed. For some reason, it had the frame count of the pickup animation, 230 frames, instead of the regular 15.
Vassago Rain 18 Sep, 2022 @ 8:58pm
Juniez' doesn't have that sideways bobbing, so it's more like a raygun, just like in HL1. I think if you can find a way to make it wield and behave like a WWII stocked pistol, it'll probably be the best tau replacement. A lot of jank was caused by the poor transition and years of neglect of the retail one, and the spinning cubes are cooler than the spinny 'core.'
thatmoodyguy  [author] 18 Sep, 2022 @ 8:34pm
*Revamp Pack uses the same base model. Both the view and world models in this are built from the old BMS Mod Tau viewmodel.
thatmoodyguy  [author] 18 Sep, 2022 @ 8:23pm
I don't know, man. Juniez's Classic Pack does the same one-handed maneuver on its Tau, and I don't remember seeing people pointing it out. The Black Mesa Animation Revamp pack on Gamebanana has the same model as this but has the second hand on the blue can, but that looked weird to me. Makes me think Gordon'll accidentally twist it like a motorcycle handle and unscrew it. I'll look into implementing the left hand into animations (and fix the other issues) sometime tomorrow.
Vassago Rain 18 Sep, 2022 @ 7:55pm
What if Gordon were to wield it like a broomhandle mauser, or artillery luger? You'd get the OG HL1 look, but with modern sensibilities, and less floating ray rifles. Could even brace with both hands when he's charging the gauss.
Vassago Rain 18 Sep, 2022 @ 7:46pm
With everything set to vanilla, it's a gun that hovers in the air, yet behaves as if there should be a left hand holding it by the handle CC added to the new version. You can't just use the same animations and hide a hand and expect things to work out.
thatmoodyguy  [author] 18 Sep, 2022 @ 7:41pm
You, Vassago, probably have a version of the tau.dmx somewhere that changes the weapon FOV from default, as I was mainly working with default Tau FOV. As for the draw time, I'll fix it soon.
Vassago Rain 18 Sep, 2022 @ 7:08pm
Viewmodel has no stock half the time, the left hand appears limp, and there's a silly high draw time before you can fire the thing. Something went wrong somewhere.
Florys 18 Sep, 2022 @ 6:36pm
no theres actually a unusually really long pause that makes you be unable to use it upon taking it out lol
thatmoodyguy  [author] 18 Sep, 2022 @ 4:18pm
As far as I know, firing speed is tied to the animations, and I used the vanilla anims for this. As for the Gluon Gun, I'll look into it.
Florys 18 Sep, 2022 @ 3:23pm
also any chance you'd do this for the gluon gun too?
Florys 18 Sep, 2022 @ 3:22pm
takes a while to start firing after equipping it
