I've also updated the mod and reworked in my own way.

I've updated this mod for 1.5 and added some enhancements (ice melting). That can be disabled in mod options if its not your cup of tea though. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3260493594

Thank you for making this mod Sovereign!
The Wizard of Nova Scotia 10 May, 2024 @ 3:51am
any chance this can be updated? its a staple mod for me
Monkey Magic 21 Mar, 2024 @ 5:20pm
"You could build armour out of it but the only thing it will give your colonist is hard nipples."

So, +1 to attack, no def bonus? XD

Wanted to ask if theres plans to bump the version number of this. I know its 1.4 compatible currently and I can just use, but I'm close to done developing a mod that depends on this one (didn't want to just take your code/assets) for 1.4 and I would not be surprised if there were a large number of comments about this not supporting 1.4 if I released it now.
Sovereign  [author] 18 Jun, 2023 @ 1:35am
that's correct. I also completely forgot the update the version number kek.
Everything else would need c#.The idea of this mod is to be as light as possible.
Only use it in ice biome and you are all cool.
Vaarelsauce 18 Jun, 2023 @ 1:30am
So from what I'm understanding, you simply just have to queue this up at a crafting station and my colonist will create buildable blocks out of thin air? Without any biome limitation?
Sovereign  [author] 28 Feb, 2023 @ 2:57pm
Oh damn.
Let me update it as well.

thank you
Vardath 15 Nov, 2022 @ 11:34pm
Please do.
Sovereign  [author] 6 Nov, 2022 @ 7:57am
The ice also works for 1.4 though.
Updating it is just me changing the thumbnail and the version in the file.
gravy 6 Nov, 2022 @ 7:40am
ice ice baby
Sovereign  [author] 1 Nov, 2022 @ 9:58am
Will do, don't worry.
thaipuff288 1 Nov, 2022 @ 9:36am
You need to update for 1.4 too plz.
Sovereign  [author] 1 Oct, 2022 @ 4:02am
The ice technically counts as metallic material. So if you can build one if plastesl, probably Yeah
Mismagius 30 Sep, 2022 @ 3:33am
so, these can be used with anything that require/use stone? like clay soldiers for example?
Sovereign  [author] 29 Sep, 2022 @ 10:24am
I would release them seperately anyway.
The idea was to keep it nice and clean after all and the main mod will stay like that.
That should actually be possible since the floor just doesn't accept the transparency.
Arky 29 Sep, 2022 @ 10:21am
I honestly thing your mod is great in its simplicity. I checked the xml. It's super clean as it is. I think artificially adding new floor types is not ideal. Is it not possible to set two different colors for the ice? Transparent when using in buildings and blueish when flooring?
Sovereign  [author] 28 Sep, 2022 @ 3:20pm
I would've never thought about that. I'll collect some ideas from the comments.
That's also on the list btw
Mazarkis 28 Sep, 2022 @ 1:25pm
Could you make flooring that's treated as a bridge to get around the floor-deletion issue? (this actually brings up an idea for a much broader mod, where ice sheets are just bridges built on water in terrain generation)
Sovereign  [author] 28 Sep, 2022 @ 5:02am
@Arky
There's sadly no way to make the floor transparent.Rimworld completely removes the ground below the artificial flooring.

I can probably make some small additions that build ontop of my ice blocks though.
HRG164hjo 28 Sep, 2022 @ 4:57am
transparent wall is cool, i like it.
Arky 28 Sep, 2022 @ 4:31am
Could we get compatibility with stone flooring please :( My ice queen palace is incomplete without fine ice flooring
Sovereign  [author] 27 Sep, 2022 @ 2:45pm
Glad it's of use! :)
Dr Jimothy 27 Sep, 2022 @ 2:40pm
This is amazing. My rim-folk not being able to build anything if I forget to give them building materials whenever I send them on arctic expeditions, meanwhile actual Inuits chill in igloos of packed ice, never made sense to me.
Sovereign  [author] 27 Sep, 2022 @ 1:48pm
Nope they don't.
Fear_Da_Destroyer 27 Sep, 2022 @ 12:16pm
do these blocks provide any temperature regulation? thinking about making a fridge/freezer out of them.
Karpeno 27 Sep, 2022 @ 12:10pm
"you "could" basically use them in a desert." (author)
Sovereign  [author] 27 Sep, 2022 @ 6:31am
I believe so yes.
1Z Rison 27 Sep, 2022 @ 4:26am
Would the XML values support negative inputs?
in regards to comfortable temperature I mean.

As for all the requests in regards to melting and special features:
That would be complex, and this mod is "just" simple ice blocks.
If I understand the Author correctly, such things are not in the scope of -this- mod.
Planetfall 27 Sep, 2022 @ 12:36am
@Gesugao-san I can't see how that wouldn't cause noticeable amounts of lag if every ice bench door and wall had to do a check to see what temperature it is.

I mean sure i'd be interesting IF you played in a biome besides sea ice or ice sheet, but it'd probably be a lot of coding work for the end result to be that most players would only use the walls in those bioms where it doesn't go above freezing or else their constructors would end up on mental breaking from needing to repair 24/7 for much of the year.
Gesugao-san 26 Sep, 2022 @ 11:46pm
Make it damaging (melting) from 1+ degrees, please :Brainout:
CheeseWheelGuy 26 Sep, 2022 @ 6:59pm
would be pretty cool if clothing/armor made of ice would affect comfortable temp ranges
lechkingofdead 26 Sep, 2022 @ 2:46pm
XD iceblock war mask FUCK YES LETS GO!
Sovereign  [author] 26 Sep, 2022 @ 12:39pm
You monster

Made My clothes from these Ice Blocks 10/10
Sovereign  [author] 26 Sep, 2022 @ 5:42am
It's just a building material that's ice.Nothing more and nothing less.
Though low tech ice stuff is something I've thought of as well.
Steve 26 Sep, 2022 @ 5:29am
So are these purely aesthetic or do they lower temperatures at all? I liked the medieval ice mod but good God the ice melting constantly was just a pain in the ass, being able to make a low tech freezer is handy though.
Sovereign  [author] 26 Sep, 2022 @ 3:26am
So I've done some talks with a c# wizard.
He told me that making it meltable is the same as turning each wall into a torch.
It will be really heavy perfromance wise which is completely against the original idea of this mod.
So i will not be doing that.

Picrete is also quite a cool idea but usually you don't find any wood on the ice sheet or ice biomes in general.
lechkingofdead 26 Sep, 2022 @ 1:28am
hm lovly, makes the meaning of ice house true.
node118 25 Sep, 2022 @ 10:19pm
Sorry spelled it wrong it's actually Pykrete, also here is a Wikipedia link https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Pykrete&ved=2ahUKEwikw_ax2rH6AhVNMewKHcyCBNYQFnoECEMQAQ&usg=AOvVaw3PEs2Dw3PprhDKCPJQhuo2
node118 25 Sep, 2022 @ 10:17pm
I think you should add picrete, it is a mix of wood and ice and is bulletproof
TheDarkJediKnight 25 Sep, 2022 @ 8:44pm
That's because, @Laurie, those heading to the South Pole have the benefit of technology to make use of better building materials that they bring with themselves when they do go there...
ExplorerRowan 25 Sep, 2022 @ 2:48pm
What would be neat is if the crafting spot/stonecutting table has to be in a below-zero environment to make them, otherwise they can't be made. Not sure how you'd implement that, though.
Kevin 25 Sep, 2022 @ 11:28am
Love this, and the transparency is a really nice idea.
Laurie 25 Sep, 2022 @ 5:15am
This would be good for sea ice biome. Do not allow ice blocks to be built on land.

People use ice blocks at the north pole on earth, but not the south pole where there is land
The Reverend H. Brown 24 Sep, 2022 @ 6:40pm
Simple, effective. Perfect. Thanks for sharing!
Arky 24 Sep, 2022 @ 5:18pm
A more elegant solution is to limit the flooring type in which the ice wall can be built upon to only snow or ice.

Alternatively, people should stop building fucking ice walls in the desert.
Arky 24 Sep, 2022 @ 5:17pm
Do not go into the rabbit hole of melting ice. It is only interesting to build ice walls in the desert for cooling. To add those mechanics you would then need to add settings+cooling+melting. Now you have a not that simple mod that may slow the game due to the heavy amount of walls if you don't know what you are doing.
