As an actual foreward from an Infantryman that has repeatedly done this to the weapon system.

Shoving STANG magazines into a SAW is a last-resort sorta use when there is no porkchop (200 round plastic ammo drum) in the vacinity. Simple yell at your buddies to throw over a mag for one quick 30 round burst and pray to god that the weapon doesn't jam and horribly fail on you.
