The original article didnt mention how it reloads, so I will make it up my self: 2 versions, 1: Uses 6 batteries and the beam releases 1 second after left clicking(needs to hold the button), in each shot the beam can last up to 5 seconds. It reloads by dumping out the used battery and reloads with new batteries. 2: A large battery and charges for 3 seconds, the beam can last up to 10 seconds and the gun malfunctions after 5 shots.
Once the model and animatons are done, you'll need to export it into an .fbx file. Use these settings [cdn.discordapp.com] in the export menu to avoid some bugs.
The tutorials should guide you through setting up the rest.
The ravenfield mod tools include examples of the base game's guns and vehicles, so you can (and should) reverse-engineer them to better understand how they work.

The rest you'll have to learn.
For your first weapon mods, I recommend doing something simple like a grenade (requires fewer animations), revolver (only needs one reload animation regardless of full / partial reload), shotgun (reload animations are quite short), or a rifle with few moving parts. I'd personally avoid doing a gun that has the slide lock back on an empty magazine - at least until you get used to how animators work.
For the model, I'd recommend downloading a model from TastyTony [sketchfab.com], since his are low-poly, stylish and free to use (search his name, you'll find him credited in a lot of ravenfield mods. His models are also used for a lot of the first-person animaton videos you'll find online). You'll need to learn the basics of Blender to join / parent objects and animate the model (you don't need to worry about rigging and bones).
You pretty much need discord since it has all the modding resources, and the people there (in the #modding channel) are the ones who'll help you learn the ropes:

Alternatively, learning to make your own weapon mods takes a bit of time, but is completely feasible. The #modding channel is always happy to help people get used to the modding tools.
