@Zeekoff i played on beta and it worked , don't even know what branch else to select , earlier tried march release and it started like downloading 12-15 gb...
p.s. it's crushing if you try to play from workshop but works fine from console. maybe worth noticing.
THX fpr Creating, Thumbs UP !
Take my award!
The final gauntlet was pretty intense, when there was a valve on the ceiling I was scrambling to find it, I finally saw the ladder at the end of the tunnel I sprinted, climbed to the top and kept running until I was at the fence haha, it was quite a rush.
This map subverted my expectations, you managed to take advantage of my belief that you could not surprise me, and in doing so you took me out of my comfort zone and made me feel genuinely scared of your creature, it was very fun, thank you for your efforts!
What an amazing map! I loved this!
At first I was like "okay, this is some excellent ambience, but I know this game and what is in it, there's nothing you can show me that I haven't seen before" and then I saw some weird thing pass by through a vent... and then I got onto the elevator... oh the hubris I had hahaha.
I love how you used the marine survivor to establish consequence and danger without showing your hand too much, when what was left of him floated up in the water my mouse twitched all over the screen lmao, you got me, I was resistant at first, but you had me scared. And then I tried to get into that room, I opened the door but the shelf was barricading the room, and for a moment I felt some genuine desperation like "oh COME ON OPEN", when The Xenian finally got me that was another scare.
Well worth a try!
The creature that's introduced is fantastic, even though it's an animated prop on a railroad.
Great cutscenes which have I didn't even know were possible for community map makers to create, I especially liked the soldier who shoots at you without hitting you, it gave a sense of danger without feeling artificial. Having one of his bullets hit a pipe, which releases a thin stream of steam was a very nice touch.
The only gripe I have with this map is, it's way too dark before you find the flashlight. Having your player explore a big, open area like the lobby in near pitch dark could be detrimental to the player experience, especially when they don't know what they're looking for. I searched all over for more pieces of the lambda sign, and found the opening to the next area by chance.
The way we find the flashlight - the small details that 'makes you jump' like the body when turn on the flashlight, monster noise, light that goes off the ceiling, the security camera video, etc.
The soldier shooting the player and the chase at the end when opening the doors was also super well done.
I gave you an award- as I think the work behind this map was excellent. I would put a bit more details on the texture and stuff but that's my personal opinion. Great work!
Small note in your lore; the scientist that dies wouldn't take the recording, put it in the safe and unplug all the plugs in the room before going back to the toilet and write a number. Needs another scientist somewhere :)
But overall, this was an excellent entry. I really loved this one, you created something really special here. Amazing work!
Oh damn, I LOVED this entry! You ticked all the right boxes. It had some interesting puzzles, some fun and unique mechanics, and the Xenian himself was very tastefully handled. It looked great, had great atmosphere and was just a really great entry overall. Definitely one of my favourites.
If I had to be nitpicky, there were some design choices that I thought didn't land entirely perfectly. For example, the section where you're turning the valves to escape the Xenian was really tense and cool, but I didn't like that you oriented the valves AWAY from the doors I was opening. It was anxiety-inducing, but not really in a good way (the time pressure from the Xenian was already enough good anxiety for that scene). Or the plug puzzle in the office with the safe, where it initially felt like I was just jamming in the 3 plugs into the 3 sockets for...no particular reason.
as for new enemy type that looks like giant centipede from xen looks very scary in my eyes and i can feel that's gonna give me some nightmares while playing this horror map and jumpscared me few times while playing this.
as for custom npc i said like "that looks like giant centipede from xen" and looks like one and definitely and very scary looking I get scared to play on this map you made and i like illusion for creating this creature entire on hammer editor with entity and i love it
this is best and scariest map i ever played 10/10 great job i might record myself playing this map because it's worth it checking it out.
JUDGE'S NOTES: Fantastic. Easily one of my favourites for having a custom threat of some description tracking the player. In terms of gameplay this had one of the most solid showings in the entire competition, with theming being my only perfect score in any category so far (as of judging this entry, I've got a few left to go still). If I had to pick something to improve upon, the visuals of the environment - which were still solid, by the way - could have been made even better to immerse the player and grow your score even further. As it currently stands, though, this map is remarkable, and you should be really pleased with the end result.
Interesting design, but not enjoyable. Pass.
