Oh hey, a reply from the modder! Sweet.

I cannot say whether it functions currently on 1.6, but it does throw an error on load. I haven't had any situations yet where my children were in danger (they're both still babies, so) but it doesn't actively break the game.

Is it possible to add at least a setting to only have children by targeted if they are drafted and holding a weapon by raiders? I usually give my kids pistols in case they are attacked and my defenders are either busy,dead or dying

@Velvet I do agree, but unfortunately it's something that would be a lot more complicated. Something better suited for its own mod as this a lightweight mod.

This might have been asked before, but would it be possible to implement a minimum age for raiders rather than it just being split between children / not children? Rimworld decides you're no longer a child at 13, but I'm not really too comfortable with being forced to fight people younger than 16-17.

I'd completely understand if that's too difficult or just not really feasible though, its a lot different from the "child / adult" divide that already exists in vanilla I'd imagine. Still, if possible I'd appreciate a slider that acts as a cutoff for possible raider ages, and I'd imagine I'm not the only one.

It'd be interesting to have this added with an ideological or faction-based approach. As what Bread and others said previously, rough enemies, outlanders and imperials would likely stay "reasonable" compared to cannibal tribes and pirates.

Would it be possible to have it divided by faction?
I would like it if the permanent enemies, pirates and savages, targeted children.
But rough enemies that start with -80 relations, or neutrals wouldn't.

Honestly this is just realism, what raider (keep in mind these guys will charge into a burning building just to kidnap a pawn) would see a baby in a crib and go "I should shoot this thing so it doesn't shoot me!"

Really, really like this. Kids and pets are the one thing I don't hurt in this game. And I'd imagine even the most hardened raider would at least think twice before offing a defenseless child.

Great mod, glad this exists. Would it be possible for you to also add an option that lets players turn off kids showing up as part of the beggar groups?

I needed this before this DLC came out. I can't tell you how many times Enemies dropped into the nursery.

Honestly I think I shouldn't use this. Because the only thing that keeps anyone safe when they enter my base (not attacking) is I don't want to hurt the kids. This I would do what I always did. Mostly "Refugee free slaves or food! Got a head shot 10 points!" besides I already torture the kids enough with my genetic experiments.... and using their brains for mechs... or flesh for combat golems... Huh seems death is the best outcome going agents me.

I love this mod so far, I originally was gonna thumbs up and award because hell, I know the child deaths and stuff bother a lot of people, but the general change involving children is actually awesome. I'd like to think that the people raiding me are doing so because they need stuff, not because they're child-murdering monsters. So kudos!

Thank you for that last update! I got this mod originally specifically trying to avoid that, had to anesthesize them the day before their betrayal to capture without violence, glad I don't have to worry about that again haha

Added an option to prevent the Royalty Refugee quest kids from betraying/assaulting the colony.

@turkler Ah you're right I had made a change in testing that accidentally removed the check on the setting. I've pushed an update.

Update Notes:
Fixed slave trader setting not applying
Added a few safety checks on better flee.

fyi the option to prevent slavers from selling children seems to be broken. I've disabled it and even made sure to up the storyteller pawn limit and I couldn't find find any children for sale in the 50ish slavers I spawned in. could replicate it with just vanilla and this mod but the log doesn't print any errors.

Thank you for the update. I just had it happen the other day, where the ten y/o 'feral child' I rescued years before was left on her own after a raid went bad. I was surprised there was no Man in Black to come. I had to use the money her guardian had saved up to purchase a new adult companion. Then after he died from our lack of psychite, buy another.

1.1 Update
-Added a Better Flee option for children, they will run to their parents, their room, or an adult in that order depending on how safe its.
-Added option to prevent slavers from selling children
-Added option to make man in black appear when all adults are downed rather than all pawns. So a man in black will come recuse the children.

What I always prefer to do is just limit the truly evil punishments to people that DARE harm children. I always keep my children away from action to protect them (I have an emotional attachment to my Pawns). Defending children is perhaps the most important thing I do in RW, and it makes me happy to see the kids grow and thrive.

I don't even execute or organ harvest child enemies , nor do I put them in harsh jail conditions or enslave them. I always wait until a child is of age before I do that, and in most cases, I just recruit them.

Could you make a lite version where it just makes it so raiders will target adults/armed children first and if all the adults/armed children are downed/dead they go after the unarmed children? Right now this mod basically makes it so your colony cant ever be destroyed if you have children.

Though the violence against children (hopefully) won't bother me too much, because RimWorld seems to basically be a somewhat comedic game about the horrors that we as a species are capable of, I completely understand why you made this mod. I might sound weird in saying this, but it's sweet of you, considering all the jokes the community makes about finding new modded ways to commit war crimes. So while I probably won't use it unless I start feeling particularly upset, thank you for making this an option.
