There's a weird text color bug that only happens with this mod installed from today's update. Could be my load order, but never encountered this issue until today. For whatever reason, Some of the text that relates to Stress, Riposte and a few others are colored purple.

Awesome mod! In case anyone still has that issue where it just doesn't wanna work even after unsubbing-resubbing, it seemed to have fixed it for me when I moved this mod above Sunward Isles in the load order (unless that was obvious, in which case oops!)

@Cactus Based Cola, With all the praise you guys are giving me? Yes I really want to! I'm currently working on the Yurei but I might need some help with the combat animation because it's hard to animate smoothly with Dragonbones. I'm also considering the Shark and the Whale next, but life is busy so that might be a while

Unsubbed and then resubbed, that fixed it.

Also gonna ask if you are going to do more redesigns given some of the other enemies are also hard to look at in truth

I checked the mod files to see why the Kappa wasn't changed for me. for somereason on my end the Kappa is missing its just the Oni

The attack sprite for "Might Of A Spirit" actually appears to be squished in-game, you might want to fix the animation error.

@Blauw vliegtuig - It looks like the user below me is correct, in that the mod does not appear to have been updated properly (the new Kappa sprite is not active on my end as well).

Could be worth investigating whether it is an upload issue or a download issue.

Absolutely gorgeous redesign of the sprites. This is mandatory for me when using Sunward Isles. I look forward to seeing more from you, and recommend this to everyone playing with Sunward Isles.:steamthumbsup:

Corpse issue: In the anim folder for this skin, all of the files corresponding to this corpse are all capitalized. Un-capitalizing them should fix the issue.

Personal Recommendation: Swap "bite" and "punch" sprites.

Yeah, and it's not like no other enemies in DD had visible eyes before. Most notably, the Deep Ones in the Cove.

Saw people commenting about eyes and i think they fir for Yokais of the Isles, beacuse for one a lot of yokai involve eyes in some way and second it adds something strange to the design overall like the shifting colours of Farm enemies and etc. Awesome mod tho would love more redesignes for other enemies

Enemies pushed out of position should not perform moves that are strong getting back into position. The whole point of pushing enemies out of position is to give yourself an advantage. look at base game enemies like cultist brawler who use stumbling scratch.

Lets not turn this into an "Us vs. them" situation. The design is great, generally its an overall improvement on every aspect of the original. It does contrast the games design slightly in the eye department(though It contributes to the design itself greatly) and the people who are bugged by that are valid.

Both of those statement are true, and don't contradict, we don't need to descend into a back and forth of "don't listen to those others" or "those others are just trolls".

love this change, i mean in original game Courtyard enemy already have eye balls, i dont see why people dont like eye balls in this mod.

Honestly, I can see an excuse for these creatures having eyes. The structure is extemely different and monstrous similar to the various horrors from the Cove, or even bosses like the Flesh. The size two enemy from the Sunward Isles is all about these types of eyes too, so very much I can see them making sense for this enemy.

While some of them might not like the added eyes, the majority so far including myself openly embrace this change. I really don't see how the eyes "ruin" him, contrary to what MSR said.

I will always advocate for eye mods. Really love this one, hope to see you redesign more Sunward enemies, as good as that mod is, the execution of the enemy design is a little lacking.

Your design really looks great and fits way better in terms of actual folklore. About you wondering where the no-eyes-rule comes from:

Because that is how darkest dungeon is designed. Color of madness enemies which you pointed out do not have eyes, they have eyesockets and the "shardglow" (in lack of better terms) shines out of them - I can understand mistaking that for them having eyes.

Why the pelagic have eyes I can't clearly remember, I do remember that some journal entries point toward them being a bit outstanding compared to the normal enemies you meet. Or simply because of their different eyestructure which bears no resemblance to human, or to be more precise "emotional" eyes.

I can understand the "headcanon" of seeing eyes there, however there are no "normal" eyes in the basegame and in the original style of which DD is composed. This does not change the fact that your work looks great however. :)

ppl going "eyes bad" when the defining feature of Oni is their huge yet soulless eyes is mindblowing to me, like it's not even Darkest Dungeon puritanism, it's just ignorance about the spirit design

And it's absolutely okay if you prefer it without eyes, but this is how I liked it, if you want to make an editted version without them I'll be happy to hand over the files for you to edit though!

I do wonder where the "no eyes" rule comes from though, the game isn't even very strict about it, almost all fish and blood monsters have them, and the standard Color of Madness enemies have glowing eyes too.
I use the rule as "if the eyes are not important to the shillouette, don't need em"
But I defo's think that most yokai could use some lunatic stare
