Since the last update. all my Dorsal Thrusters dont seem to be working. Is anyone else having this issue?

@Enderluck. Dorsal. means its on top of the ship. there fore base level stuff is below the thruster.

You may want to consider publishing your version of the mod for now, since this version seems to currently be an orphan. I know that I'd love to try it with your tweaks!

My thoughts in situations like these are that if you've

1.) made a good-faith effort to contact the author;
2.) the mod doesn't include language asking/telling people not to make derivative or spin-off mods;
3.) you are explicit in your own mod description that it is an offshoot of the original mod, including link and credit to the original author and noting that were unable to reach the author for affirmative permission; and
4.) clearly communicate that you will take down the mod should the original author return and request that you do so;

that you're doing a service for/improving/benefiting the community by updating a mod that people enjoy.

I'm certainly not The Decider for these things, but I think it's a pretty decent stance. :)

Why the 2 doors limit? It is quite weird, I can recall on any normal part that has that type of special limitation.

Hi, why are you able to put a dorsal thruster right after another dorsal thruster? Shouldn't the fire of the first thruster prevent you from putting a second thruster behind?

I like this mod. However, we may disagree slightly about game balance. I think by late game, the usefulness of the Large Thruster is somewhat limited. The Huge Thruster (and other thrusters added by popular mods) is much more thrust efficient. So I dislike the idea of nerfing the thrust.

Personally, I'd prefer if Tristeel was put back and the thrust nerf be either removed or mitigated.

I like this mod so much that I developed more thruster sizes. First, I created a Dorsal Huge Thruster. The hardest part was modifying/creating the artwork.

Then I created a Dorsal Standard Thruster. For some reason I could not figure out, the Nozzle part of my Dorsal Standard Thruster did not want to appear on the outside view. (It appeared fine on the inside view.) I spent hours... nay, a day or two, trying to figure out the issue. I even asked for help on the Discord, even posting my code. But they could not help me solve it. Eventually, I figured out an unusual art workaround to make it look as it should.

So I finished my version with 3 sizes of dorsal thrusters. (I tweaked the cost and balance a bit to fit my playstyle.) I've been using it for over a week now and it works just fine.

I'm more than willing to share my version. Can we collaborate? I may prefer different construction costs and thrust values, though. Maybe you can use my art and code and I can use yours in my own version (with credit given, of course)? On the right hand side of your workshop items there is an "Owner Controls" panel. One of the choices is "Add/remove Contributors". You could add me as a Contributor to this and I could add you to my own version?

can you make it so the cone of the dorsal thrusters is not prohibited by vanilla thrusters no build zones, since it should be residing above the hull it shouldnt be considered in the path of the vanilla thrusters mounts, and even then vanilla thrusters can have their cones inside no build zones for other thrusters, im trying to use the dorsal thruster as a replacement for 2 standard thrusters on the exterior of the ship since it doesnt obstruct armor and other thrusters and has 400 kilonewtons more thrust than 2 standard thrusters while occupying the same amount of space internally. thanks for this fantastis mod, can wait to see where it goes from here.

Thanks for the changes. I had to rework my ships and they look pretty ugly now^^. Old designs didnt worked anymore since they blocked a 2x3 field infront of the exit. Stripping a freighter half of its engines, wich have more weight, less power and fairly increased cost made them unusable. Especially for miners, desintigration turrets and turret PDs. Btw, i noticed that mining turrets dont block their laser beams anymore. So even the dev noticed how annoying that was.

And engines blocking PD rounds... Really appreciate the change. That you cant rotate a deck gun barrel above them makes sense. Some released a mod that uses vanilla guns as turrets.

@Shuri-Sama: This happens to me too even with vanilla engines. Sometimes the ship just moves infront of its position and doesnt move those 2-3 blocks backwards. Autopilot has a specific issue with asymetric designs. Wich is known.

did you check about the movement? since last patch sth not right if i go from poasition x to y my ship goes for ahead to the goal moves back moves forwards and so on. its really terrible to aim a target especially in asteroid fields where it is important to halt at the position you r aiming for.

@Colios I've removed this feature. You should be good to use these more or less as you previously had.

They also don't cost Tristeel, but the Steel cost has gone up a little.

Keep the feedback coming if you think they could be improved.

@Ebhar I've removed this. I'd rather enable people to build the ships they want to build than to hamfist them into an already-distorted version of vanilla balance.

Other roof-mounted components, such as Deck Guns, will still block these.

Will there be a non blocking option too? I used them on my cargo ships wich are equiped with mining lasers and a good amount of point defense turrents. Integrated them in fighters and my frigates too.

The higher price, size and noticable lower thrust were already balancing enough. The additional need of tri-steel makes them kinda not worth it. Except late/endgame i guess.

hmm are u sure the thrusters working correct. my backwards thrusters are activated (flying forwards). the 4 fields space between other roof items makes sense, so still very powerfull but not as op as before and still quiet cheap compared to others which i have ^^

@Pvt. Licker As far as I can tell, thrusters apply a force vector dependent on where they sit relative to the ship's centre of mass. Asymmetry seems to lead to forward-facing thrusters firing here and there in an attempt to keep the ship angled correctly. There's literally nothing differentiating these from vanilla thrusters in terms of function & manner of operation, so I'm guessing it's just part of normal navigation.

I'm running into some weirdness where these thrusters will occasionally fire when they shouldn't. For example a forward-facing braking thruster fires when the ship is going full speed ahead. My ship is slightly asymmetrical so my guess would be it has something to do with that

NICE!!!!!! if you wanted to balance them some more, make them a bit longer so you have a row of heat shielding directly after the nozzle and buff the cost a bit more.

omg. these r so op. just use it on my big warship. even i have mich stronger thrusters but for them i need really much space. but to put yours everywhere where i want with no deadzoneis really a big help.
