Combat encounters were tough, and stayed fairly difficult throughout the game, which was great given how many campaigns don't offer any challenge.
The campaign was very linear and combat-focused, but the pacing of levels and items was good.
The two I remember the most are the Remorhaz battle on quest for dragon sword, and entering the castle to fight the undead. Both battles had enemy with several combat types (melee, standoff missile fire, magic both AoE and individual. Couldn't just Wall of Fire and stay alive long enough for the enemy to burn to death, or any other 1-trick winning tactics.
Thanks very much
The problem we found was that this campaign gives good loot waaaay to late into the campaign. It was needed way earlier to combat the enemies it throws at the group.
We got frustrated, so we started the module with lv 12 characters and obliterated everything in this campaign while completing it with a party consisting of a Warlock, Sorcerer, Monk, and a Barbarian. : )
I won't lie though, even with lv 12 characters with good gear, some of the situations were somewhat of a challenge, and that says something about how difficult this campaign truly is to complete legitimately.
I have no shame in saying I'm playing on Story, and I'm still getting my @$$ handed to me.
Flippin' awesome.
Normally I march through Solasta modules without raising a sweat, Sweating this one.
The battles often require a few retries, until I find a tactic that works. Whereupon I pat congratulate myself for being so smart, walk into the next room, and get destroyed by its baddies.
Currently L7 (Paladin, Rogue, Ranger, Wizard) facing Razan. My 4 versus their 14, most of whom have far more HPts than my guys, and bloody Razan counts as an extra 5 or 6 baddies because he gets so many goddamn turns. This battle is the most trouble I've had so far. I've gotten close to beating him a couple of times, one time down to just him left, but so far the bastard has beaten me every time.
Going to bed now, hopefully to dream up another tactic to try tomorrow.
Thanks for the goddamn challenges.
Finally made it to the mines after about 10 attempts so far. I've got a bad feeling I am going to need some bludgeon damage soon or this party is done for.
I don't understand the point of placing such fights. I left the module unfinished for now and probably forever.
If this was supposed to be for a very hardcore optimized party it should have been made clear in the description of the module or at least during gameplay WAY before the final chapter. Right now, as I suppose many people are doing, I'm having fun trying the new classes and the dragonborn...
