as someone who works in manufacturing, I do love me some pallets. Now we just need a usable forklift in the game and it's officially the greatest thing.

omg i have been using an old mod to get the old one stack shelf functionality for so long, this looks like a properly integrated and well thought out one stack shelf... it has been sooo long since i needed this

Is it possible to make mod option to remove quality from this kind of furniture?
Videogames 7 May, 2023 @ 8:51pm
Huh neat - if adding more furniture variants works how I think it does in Ideology I might take the time to make an addon patch for this to give sprite variants to the other style types.

Update 1.2.0:

!! This update will automatically disables the toggleable capacity patch since it has been renamed and improved - Apologies for the inconvenience. You'll just need to re-enable it in the VEF mod settings. !!

Anyways, too many changes to note here, but all of the changes suggested by @Yoann below this comment and MORE were added. Check the 'change notes' for the full list.

In short: Many balance tweaks, fixes and improvements. Most notably pallets can now store minified buildings/plants, large corpses and even stone chunks (because why not?)

And again, thank you to @Yoann for the valuable feedback :^)

Also, the staticSunShadowHeight should be edited for better result.
Yoann 23 Nov, 2022 @ 7:07am
Beautiful art!
Can I suggest you to change the "fixedStorageSettings", to allow to store even big things ? (with reverse storage setting of shelf by default, it would be great)

What is the scenario where a one-stack pallet is more useful than a three-stack shelf? Is there some background logic running, pathfinding, transfer times, that make this non-intuitive? I'm just curious, i never used the old vanilla shelves so I don't know.
dickmosi  [author] 22 Nov, 2022 @ 9:03am
@Jet Javelin There's a toggleable patch to allow the pallets to hold 3 stacks per tile, it requires Vanilla Expanded Framework to show up. It can be found at Options > Mod Options > Vanilla Expanded Framework > Toggleable Patches > "Practical Pallets".

As for 'of only the same item' just change the storage settings of the pallet to only accept that particular item.
Jet Javelin 22 Nov, 2022 @ 8:56am
Is there some way I can make the pallet hold 3 stack of only same kind of item?
dickmosi  [author] 21 Nov, 2022 @ 10:05am
Update 1.1.0:
- Added a toggleable capacity patch (Requires Vanilla Expanded Framework)

Toggled off by default, allows shelves to hold 3 items per tile instead of 1 (just like regular shelves.)

@Owlchemist I agree. Also you're welcome and keep up the great work!
Owlchemist 21 Nov, 2022 @ 6:56am
The pallets look fine to me, I wouldn't change a thing. The graphic would probably look too busy if you tried to add the bottom pieces in, given the art style limitations.

Anyway just popping in here to let you know Simple Chains: Lumber is updated with the provided artwork. Thanks again!

@XelNigma I've never heard of a skid before, to me a pallet is just a portable (usually) wooden platform regardless of it's design. You're likely right but most people are going to recognise it as a 'pallet'. I did try a design that looked like what you're describing but it didn't look great. The design in the mod is far more visually distinct and clear.

It's just one of those pieces of knowledge that you have, that no one is going to get right and it's always going to bug you. Like with me and people saying "me either" instead of "me neither" or faux cyrillic.
XelNigma 20 Nov, 2022 @ 8:34pm
Does no one know what a pallet looks like? The 2x1 pallet is all wrong and worse yet, this isn't the only mod that does this. Are pallets in Europe designed this way or something?
Also, these are skids. Pallets are connect on the bottom and top. But everyone uses the two terms interchangeably because the distinction is pointless.
I'm not mad, just confused why it's so common.
dickmosi  [author] 20 Nov, 2022 @ 6:56pm
@IsopropylPod Not currently, but I'll look into adding an optional patch later today.
IsopropylPod 20 Nov, 2022 @ 5:41pm
Is there a config setting to have them store 3 things? I prefer the look of these over filling my storage room with shelves but would prefer the space use of shelves.
Duck56 20 Nov, 2022 @ 2:48pm
nice, i actually wanted something like this for a while now. Thanks!
SpaceDorf 20 Nov, 2022 @ 10:59am
I used Deep Storage since it was first released by Skullywag and I support Owlchemist's suggestion :)
dickmosi  [author] 20 Nov, 2022 @ 9:24am
@Owlchemist I'll consider the LWM Deep Storage idea, I don't use the mod but it'd be worth it for the practice alone.

And yes, you're welcome to use the artwork in your mod. A link to this workshop page or the github would be perfectly fine, thanks!
Owlchemist 20 Nov, 2022 @ 9:07am
Hello - I love the art work you put together here. I've been vocal on the rimworld discord saying someone oughta replace the LWM deep storage palllets for a long time now. I think you'd get tons of subs if you recycled the texture here as a texture replacement mod for it (as either part of this mod or its own thing).

Which brings me to something I wanted to ask: I'm looking at those license links at the bottom and it has me wondering... might it be okay if I replace my own dated pallet graphics that I'm using in Simple Chains: Lumber with your version? All credit given of course.
LoggerC4 19 Nov, 2022 @ 6:56pm
This is great, cheers!
OnyxTortoise 19 Nov, 2022 @ 6:36pm
Great idea! Shelves finally got useful, but I find situations now where one stack would have been enough (stuff is easier to discern is one of several reasons).
FoxoManiak 19 Nov, 2022 @ 2:50pm
That's actually exactly what i needed, thank you for making this.

Also i really like the textures :)
