@ph00nix that should be fine by me

"Greetings @promilie, I'm writing to you again as a great admirer of your portrait mod. I am currently working on a mod of my own and would be most grateful if I could incorporate your portraits into it. You would, of course, be fully credited with a link to this page. Thank you for your time and consideration."

@Ever Universe Thanks, I succeeded after using your method, but still hope this mod will be updated soon

Please update
Ever Universe 12 May, 2024 @ 7:02am
@Promilie; I have read in the description that you are unable to update this mod due to issues on your end. With your permission, I can maintain your mod up-to-date with Stellaris versions.
Ever Universe 12 May, 2024 @ 6:44am
After a few minutes of documentation, I have fixed the mod. Carefully follow the instructions, it is essential that you do everything I did, otherwise it might break:

Step 1 : Remove the species_archetypes folder (it is not needed, as Dragons belong in the vanilla BIOLOGICAL archetype anyway)

Step 2 : Copy and paste this into the "00_draconic_species_classes.txt" file within the "species_classes" folder (make sure you completely replace everything):

Draconic = {
archetype = BIOLOGICAL

possible = {
authority = {
NOT = {
value = auth_machine_intelligence
text = SPECIES_CLASS_MUST_NOT_USE_MACHINE_INTELLIGENCE
}
}
}

graphical_culture = reptilian_01
move_pop_sound_effect = "reptilian_pops_move"

resources = {}
}

Step 3 : Add a new folder within the "common" folder named "portrait_categories"
Ever Universe 12 May, 2024 @ 6:44am
Step 4 : Add a new .txt file within the "portrait_categories" folder named "zz_dragon_portrait_categories" and paste this into the file:

Draconic = {
name = Draconic

sets = {
Draconic
}
}

Step 5 : Add a new folder within the "common" folder named "portrait_sets"

Step 6 : Add a new .txt file within the "portrait_sets" folder named "zz_dragon_portrait_sets" and paste this into the file:

Draconic = {
species_class = Draconic

portraits = {
"dragon"
}
}

And that's it, it should work now, as it did for me.
faustie 10 May, 2024 @ 3:52pm
Second, the game file. It can be located by the path: SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Stellaris\common\portrait_sets

Open file: 00_portrait_sets

Locate the section:
reptilians = {

Underneath, "rep5" insert a new line [IE press enter]

In the new line, enter the text (including the quotation marks):
"dragon"

Then save the document.

With that you should see that the portrait appears in the reptile category when the game launches with the mod subscribed.
NOTE: I have no clue whether this will work for multiplayer or not, so attempt at your own discretion.
faustie 10 May, 2024 @ 3:52pm
First, the modded file. You can locate this via either the stellaris launcher, by going to playsets, clicking the 3 dots and clicking show in folder (as long as the file is subscribed in the steam workshop). From there go through the path gfx\portraits\portraits. Open the file: 00_draconic_portrait_groups

In the file remove the line:
# Draconic

Then save the file.

(Note: the file may also be located with the path:
SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\281990\2893752931)

I have found and non-ideal workaround that involves placing the portrait into the reptilian appearance category. This does come with the issue of loosing the naming references in game to the dragon category (IE: when you are interacting with other empires). As well it requires the modification of both the mod file and an in game file (so creating backups may be a good idea).
(Note: I am not a mod developer, nor do I know how to properly code. So it is likely someone else will find a better way to fix the portrait) Note: I have to make multiple posts due to steams character limit.
Nixavros 10 May, 2024 @ 7:40am
@Simon;{identifying function} where could you find the fixed mods? or just how to fix them.
Simon;{identifying function} 9 May, 2024 @ 1:09pm
aight, as with the saurian mod, I fixed this one aswell, was ok now that I have figured it out
Varenthian 8 May, 2024 @ 10:46pm
can confirm portraits no longer work with the 3.12 update :(
Lord_of_Dragons 7 May, 2024 @ 7:07pm
After the last update the portraits don't work anymore.
Ever Universe 7 May, 2024 @ 2:59pm
Hmm, with the latest update, the Dragon portrait doesn't show anymore. This also happens with the Saurian ones.
Luminara 28 Mar, 2024 @ 4:53pm
@Ravemaster99 There are multiple dragon portrait mods which use the same prefix in the files (draconic) and are overwriting eachother.
I had the same issue and only solved it by editing this mods files (but its been a while and i don't really remember how i did it)
NovaPolaris 14 Mar, 2024 @ 1:03pm
I hope it's still possible this mod can be updated to current versions. It's really, really well done, and I love it dearly.
Arc, Creator of Worlds 13 Mar, 2024 @ 4:18pm
@ravemaster99 Its "Draconic" in category name
Ravemaster99 7 Feb, 2024 @ 6:33pm
Bah, cant edit comments. For posterity, this is version 3.10
Ravemaster99 7 Feb, 2024 @ 6:32pm
Doesnt show up for me either in the creator. I DO have like, 120 mods though.
Can anyone confirm what the category name is? I have other mods using the "Dragon" and "Draconian" categories, which gives me suspicion of a conflict.
Bibby6579 27 Dec, 2023 @ 2:23am
Might be able to fix it via just removing ti/unsubbing from it and resubbing it... But don't hold me to that as it could also just do nothing at all. I haven't personally found how to fix it with the other portraits I used that had such happen.
Bibby6579 27 Dec, 2023 @ 2:21am
@SergeantCupcake I have also noticed this type of thing happening with some of my old portrait mods, where for some reason, they tend to just break at certain points and the image or file for the image just doesn't register anymore. idk what causes it but I know I have been having similar issues with portrait mods that aren't updated for a long time. Similar or worse happens with ship style mods.
emerald10005 1 Jul, 2023 @ 3:44pm
Do you plan to add cyber-dragons to this mod like you did with the saurians? They'd look sick
ComradeWinston 13 Jun, 2023 @ 1:05am
still shows-up just fine in empire creation
SergeantCupcake 20 May, 2023 @ 8:04pm
@Promilie For me, the portrait just isn't working anymore. It no longer shows up in the list of available portraits in the empire creator, nor does it show up in my active/current empire I've been playing with. Which is weird, because it worked fine for a while, even after the latest patch; but then it just stopped working. So I can't even begin to guess what happened. But I don't use any other portrait mods, so I know it can't be that.
Promilie  [author] 20 May, 2023 @ 3:56pm
@SergeantCupcake It seems to work for me, which part of it are you having issues with? I know there are compatability issues with other dragon portrait mods which I do plan to fix.
SergeantCupcake 20 May, 2023 @ 1:18am
This mod doesn't seem to work anymore sadly. Do you plan on patching/updating it?
heracles_shiryu 16 May, 2023 @ 7:41pm
ask, is ready for the new version of paragons? and think do a new version with asencion progress?
Dark 6 May, 2023 @ 6:30am
Finally, a good fucking derg portrait
OlegY 2 Apr, 2023 @ 1:59pm
Lol, 3/3 - Dragon Species Pack uses too "portraits = { "dragon" }" xD
OlegY 2 Apr, 2023 @ 1:28pm
Hello!
While making compatibility patch(upload soon) between different dragon portrait mods noticed one thing.

Happened that "portraits = { "dragon" }" is too commonly used word.Both Here Be Dragons and Another Dragon Mod overwrites it, they're 2 from 3 dragon portrait (except this) i found.
In my patch it will be solved but can be a problem in future when someone else decides to make dragon portrait mod.
Daniellm 21 Mar, 2023 @ 11:21am
modifier in question: https://i.imgur.com/rji0kAR.png
Daniellm 21 Mar, 2023 @ 11:19am
hi promille, after looking through the files again, i've come to ask why you made a custom archetype for the dragons? it's not needed for the portrait mod to work, and it just makes an un-localized modifier stand by itself in the empire screen doing-gameplay.

while it doesn't have any negative effects from what i'm aware off, i'm just curious as to why it exists in the first place

Best regards :)
Graf Earl 2 17 Mar, 2023 @ 1:55am
Hello, for some reason the portraits dont seem to appear for me, is there a specific load order required?
Promilie  [author] 16 Mar, 2023 @ 7:11am
@pinkninja The mod should still work as normal with 3.7. The only reason it says it's out of date is that I haven't yet pushed an update to a single document file that says which version it supports. It doesn't have any effect on the functionality of the mod itself.
pinkninja 16 Mar, 2023 @ 2:35am
any plans of updating it?
Blue North Star 5 Mar, 2023 @ 5:28am
Empire set possible?
(Will you eventually make an empire set (City, Origin, Ship, etc) for this?)
Boshty 4 Feb, 2023 @ 10:35am
Browsing around for a good new race to use for an 'enslavement, purging and overall do-as-i-fuckin-tell-you style run, giant ass dragons seems utterly perfect. all smaller being are playthings and peons to the mighty Dragon rulers :)

I love this mod! excited for if you decide to add Long dragons and ampitheres
Celepito 1 Jan, 2023 @ 2:05pm
These are absolutely gorgeous! Now the only thing needed is a Machine-based Dragon portrait to go with this >.>

why dragon portraits , modify the checksum , and there is no way to get achievements
Belgian Waffle 17 Dec, 2022 @ 2:58pm
@Promilie No problem! My friend (the Linux user) just tested it and it works perfectly. Thank you so much!
Theta-6 16 Dec, 2022 @ 3:21pm
Wish that this Mod Had a Name List that was Dragon Based, Maybe Some Latin, Welsh (Flag has a Dragon on it) And the likes.
Promilie  [author] 15 Dec, 2022 @ 7:20pm
@Belgian Waffle Thank you for the info, I've changed the folder to lowercase. Hopefully that should fix the issue for Linux users!
Hatecaster 14 Dec, 2022 @ 1:56pm
I love this mod. I'm only sad that it's not compatible with Another Dragon Mod.
Belgian Waffle 13 Dec, 2022 @ 11:16am
Hi! I absolutely love this and the quality is amazing!

However, this (and some other portrait mods) crash Linux users at 80% loading and the fix is actually extremely simple. In the files you have the "Dragon" folder in gfx/models/portraits capitalized, and if you simply make it lowercase, it fixes the crashes.

Something about Linux files and case sensitivity, idk - but I thought the information might be helpful.
Asidian 10 Dec, 2022 @ 9:55pm
Amazing work!
