Other than that, this is fucking awesome
It works, by the way. Ever since the devs changed the character creation UI. You'll be given a prompt to "hold onto your fur" (pick your species) after you make your survivor. Of course if you're still unsure, you can just enable the change species option in sandbox

This does happen in B41 and effectively prevents multiplayer servers from playing with both humans and animals.

When b42 MP is finally out that definitly should get fixxed up otherwise, one of my favorite mods personally
To switch species with the latest update:
-start the game with "allow change species" enabled in sandbox settings
*while unpaused*
>right click character > change species
*with species selection screen open*
>pause game (if you like)
*while paused*
>open character info tab: the character display will update in there as you go through species
>confirm choice
