I can see your point, sounds like my first playthrough. But duplicate items are useful for COOP play with friends which this map supports (Journey lets you adjust difficulty). The Yoyo spawns could be toned down, but weapon balancing is pretty hard.
Or you can "cheat" by equipping Rod of Discord using 3rd party inventory editor, then pull it out and teleport through locked doors
