within 3 days it just started spamming events and spain was governed by habsburgs, literally every latin african country formed latin africa at the same time and the arabic countries formed the arabic union so i had 400 unions and literally everyone was communist except for germany

Hopefully someone if not you will make an alternative mod that makes an instant change, its excessive to have wait 2 months to 90 days to change the sub ideology.
It's not the end of the world to wait, but maybe I'd like to start with a particular sub ideology for more immersion or before certain events happen.

You should probably just write up a scripted effect console command to change the ideologies at will if you're trying to do scenario setup

can you add a way to do it without the wait? i want to set up a scenario at the start of the game, and if i let it run for 90 days then a lot of events will happen and i'll have to set everything up again

Don't want to bother, but I will do trying to do so in the best possible way, Paradox added the subideology of Populism for democracy and Brazil begins with it, do you plan to add it? Thx for this mod is awesome.

Yeah, I've subbed and resubbed to it a few times over the past few months since I noticed the problem back in last July, hoping it would've been resolved at some point during this time. I've also done a few file verification checks on my end too, both without and without the mod being installed during at least one time apiece.

That's a really strange thing to happen to a mod that I've not touched in over a year, but it wouldn't be the first time I've had steam workshop fuck something up on an old mod.

The launcher is saying that the mod is missing its descriptor file, and I can't add it or activate it on the launcher selector. It's a bummer, I'm not sure why this is happening but it used to be fine before.

Please try the mod and specify what's actually broken (if it is) before asking for an update

This mod is about as simple as it gets and runs on functions that have existed for pretty much the entirety of the game's existence. Just because the launcher says it's "outdated" it doesn't necessarily mean it's broken.

This mod is not going to add any ideologies as that is outside the scope of what it was intended to do.

For future readers: please do not ask me to add ideologies. Go find a mod that adds the ideologies you want or make your own.

for uhh, communism, add a subideology called Socialism (just classical socialism)

Here is a description


Classical Socialism believes in Basic Socialist Principles, which advocate for equality, welfare, free healthcare, free education, and advanced freedoms in the society. Along with rapid social and economic change, resulting in either the abolishment or nullification of capitalism. Being less extreme than things like Marxism, Stalinism and Anarcho-Communism, but more radical than Democratic Socialism

That mod adds new ideologies so probably not.

At best it will still work with the vanilla ideologies in that mod if they didn't change any of the internal names for them, but you won't have any decisions that let you switch to the new ideologies that mod adds.

@U_abz If you're using the Ideology Rework mod, Ultranationalism is what IR calls the generic (i.e. non-German) Nazism.

With Subideology Decisions, Ultranationalism should be accessible with the non-German Nazism decision which gets unlocked (or locked) as per the conditions listed in the Detailed Rundown in the mod description.

I haven't tried it so I'm not 100% sure, but I would assume yes, it would not be possible.

[Vanilla] subideologies are defined in
(HOI4)/common/ideologies/00_ideologies.txt

If you read this file, you'll see that subideologies are defined within the base ideology groups; e.g. right at the top, democracies have conservatism, liberalism, and socialism defined as "types". Subideologies are not defined independently, they are fundamentally linked to a parent ideology group. The way I see it, the game would just simply not expect someone to be, say, non-aligned, but then have a leader with the liberalism subideology. The liberalism subideology is not related to the non-aligned ideology, so as far as the ideology is concerned, liberalism doesn't exist. How the game actually handles such a scenario would need to be tested, but I wouldn't expect it to go well at all.

Would be physically possible to write in the script but I don't think that'd be a very smart idea.

Worst case, game shits itself trying to change to a subideology of an ideology group that isn't the current ruling party's.

Best case, game changes the ruling party ideology for you at the same time, but that'd just be plain OP, and thus something I would not allow.
