Hard Farming

I second Muad'dib with realism. I rather have a plant grow what it does in real life and yields and seeds as in RL too. I understand that not all would want this though.
Muad'dib 2 May, 2024 @ 11:56am
Do crops take a realistic time to grow with this mod? Example is I'm seeing on the wiki that it takes 10 days for cabbage to grow. But a simple google search shows 60-100 days for cabbage to grow depending on the variety. I understand not many people would play games the way I do but if a day is a real day in game, especially since playing the game it seems like it takes days for a freaken scratch to heal even with good medicine and bandages, then I should not be able to grow cabbages faster than I can heal a cut on my leg.

funny fact: if your world setting of farming abundance is 'very poor', with this mod you harvest nothing from cabbage plant without fertilizing it

It would be cool to see an option where seeds go bad, it would add an element of hardness to the game. Or an option to make it a higher level to extract

i can remove this mod from save?
Mopop 21 Oct, 2023 @ 12:40am
Is it cool if we took the mod and added addons for it to add modded crops? Need a wide variety in my playthrough but it makes modded crops too OP and I would like them to remain.
Was thinking something like Hard Farmin: Mo' Crops Addon, stuff like that that way the user could write out the stuff they need for their mods and keeps you from having to keep track of a bunch of farm mods to make addons for.

i use "nearly" all of your mods they're all great ideas but what i believe is instead of working on all kinds of different mods you should focus only on some of them to make more polished mods. dont get me wrong even right now they're one of the best mods out there and sometimes more polished than some vanilla gameplay elements. i really love your work and the fact that you're doing it for free but since you spend too much of your time doing these things i just gave you a suggestion that might work better for you and us.

i wonder the reason behind your huge effort for modding, do you play the game with your mods?

thanks for your hard work <3

We're doing 7 days to die levels of farming huh?
In all seriousness, good work!

Glad you worked it out! And thank you!

I've found the culprit, it's Ultimate Farming Patch mod by pwrcosmic (ID: 2895419952). Removing the said mod fixes the crop growth system part.

This mod is great, just what we needed since Vanilla crop abundance is still giving a lot of crops and seeds per tile. I've also been using the other mods you've created, their concept is great. Keep up the good work.
spoon  [author] 23 Jun, 2023 @ 11:03am
This might be some other mod that only changes the crop growth system .lua and not the items themselves.

Sorry to bother you again, but is 31/12/2022 Reform really working, or is this mod has incompatibilities with other mods?

We tried to plant the Corns, and when it's in "Seed-Bearing" state, we still get like 7 Corns 21 seeds, 8 Corns 24 seeds, 9 Corns 27 seeds, and 10 Corns 30 Seeds. Each one are per tile harvest. For information, the Corn needs 5 seeds to be planted in a furrow per tile.

Same thing happened with the Cabbage, except it's 9 seeds per tile. Happens to the other vanilla crops as well, like the Crop:Seed ratio isn't 1:1.

Corn and Cabbage tooltip shows "Mod: Hard Farming" in blue text, followed with "This item overrides: - Project Zomboid - Food Preservation Plus" in gray-black text. No errors popup happened when I harvest the crops. My Farming level is also 0.

Fixed the compost bag issue. It was my bad. Also here is a nice mod that changes on how wells work : https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2961115135
Natsume Rin 20 Jun, 2023 @ 2:48am
Details says "Sack of compost also lasts two times as much as it did before", but for some reason me and my friends only still can use it 4 times (4 tiles of crops) before fully depleting it from 100% to 0%. Is this a known bug?

"How does this mod interact with vanilla sandbox settings for crop yield configuration? "
"@error2k I disabled that part."

Does this mean the mod no longer reduces farming yield? Or am I misreading the comment? Even at minimal yield settings in sandbox it's too easy and doesn't promote needing large farms. I am hoping to use this mod to fix that

Hi, can you make a mod that pollutes/removes water from wells, otherwise the point of looking for water completely disappears
SoftwareDeeth 8 Feb, 2023 @ 1:40pm
@pynoTTV You posted cringe.

Great mod btw thanks spoon!

Thankfully, I'm not playing on your server, you sound insufferable.

Again, mod description states that maintaining seeds is possible, and that amount of seeds depends on farming skill.
How it actually works in my experience, with only this mod and no other mods:
Cabbage: 1-2 seeds per harvest (need 3 to replant), same with 0 farming and 10 farming.
Broccoli: 4 seeds per harvest (need 6 to replant), same with 0 farming and 10 farming
Potatoes: 2 seeds per harvest (need 4 to replant), same with 0 farming and 10 farming
pynoTTV 1 Feb, 2023 @ 5:59am
I Disappoint with u @rock and Autism
I am sure you have less than 200h of play

Broccoli after I used fertilizer to shorten the phase, when it finishes the phase to go to the next one, it resets and does the same phase again.

In addition after weeks of testing on the server I can assure that the mod makes farming much easier and not difficult.

The ability to extract seeds is too OP should be able to be feasible at the maximum level and even then it would be good to be able to extract only one seed. A seed pack was worth $300 last month on the server now it is worth $10, anyone can have infinite crops
pynoTTV 1 Feb, 2023 @ 5:56am
The fact that each planting required a different level of seeds was not bad either. It is really too easy to grow in project I think you can nerf it ue otherwise I hope you will give me a chance to create a similar mod..
Rock and Autism 28 Jan, 2023 @ 5:58am
@La__fonzi
It's not about suffering or masochism. Mod description states "Low level farmers have hard(Not super hard) time maintaining their seeds" which implies possibility of actually maintaining seeds, and that it depends on farming skills. But my experience is completely opposite. So I'm asking why.
La__fonzi 27 Jan, 2023 @ 6:56pm
@Rock and Autism. just dont use the mod dude its a type of difficulty for digital masochists. unless you want pain and suffering this mod serves no purpose. personally i like it
Rock and Autism 27 Jan, 2023 @ 9:48am
How do I sustain seeds with this mod? No matter what farming abundance settings or farming skill I have, I get ~50% of the seeds I need to replant.
Boris-XP 21 Jan, 2023 @ 5:44am
the harvest is not going, nothing at all
spoon  [author] 26 Dec, 2022 @ 10:45pm
@error2k I disabled that part.

How does this mod interact with vanilla sandbox settings for crop yield configuration?
spoon  [author] 13 Dec, 2022 @ 6:26pm
@640 1240 It will force you to make a lot more patches of farmland if you really want the same amount of stuff then vanilla gave you. Depends on the rain cycle and how much parasites the plants get as well... It will probably raise the time but not too much... I think.
640 1240 13 Dec, 2022 @ 6:20pm
Does this mod increase the amount of time a solo player tends to their farm, compared to vanilla? I enjoy the grind against scarcity, but I don't want agriculture to lock me down from adventuring to town. The vanilla system is thankfully merciful with water retention, in that I only farm for an evening every several days, but if this mod increases the number of plots a solo player uses (due to decreased yield), I'm a bit apprehensive at hitting "info" 96 times every morning checking for diseases.
spoon  [author] 12 Dec, 2022 @ 1:17pm
@AstrayCuriosity Yeah I know. Most of the gems are hidden somewhere out there :(
AstrayCuriosity 12 Dec, 2022 @ 1:16pm
Oh my god thank you for spotlight of this mod. 500 visitors I would never find it. And it's title is not helping either.
spoon  [author] 12 Dec, 2022 @ 1:13pm
@AstrayCuriosity I also use this along with my mod > https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2894640315

*sigh* another farming mod that don't stop the player from doing farms during winter.

spoon  [author] 10 Dec, 2022 @ 1:33pm
@rawgu probably not, there are just too many
rawgu 10 Dec, 2022 @ 10:10am
any plan to add support for modded plants? :happy_yeti:
spoon  [author] 10 Dec, 2022 @ 9:07am
@rawgu only vanilla plants
rawgu 10 Dec, 2022 @ 8:39am
does this work for modded crops also? Eg. more crops; soul filcher's farming time and xnerot's farmable trees? :)
