This could also be done using the Bechamp process for aniline dye. And it should be noted that the way to make nitrobenzene does not use up the sulfur, but is a chemical process using sulfuric acid that leaves pure sulfur as a residue, which can be turned back into sulfuric acid. So the entire process for aniline dye would be similar using up coal and iron as a catalyst and only need a sulfur starter for creating nitrobenzene. So even places without natural sulfur but with a one time ability to get sulfur to create sulfuric acid could then make aniline dye. This would cut the need for sulfur out of everything save for making black powder for early firearms.
