Still, I really appreciate your suggestion and the time you took to reply.
@GJC
You could try asking on the discussions or the game discord's server!
In Uboat, when the captain dies and we promote an officer to captain, they wear a special suit uniform. If you're curious, it looks like:
1. The man next to the mission vehicle
2. The one from whom we recruit crew members
This uniform exists in-game but is hidden and only wearable by the captain under certain conditions. I want to make it available to all officers, and if possible, the entire crew.
I'm not a modder, but I’ve done research that might help—please don’t take this as ego.
I believe if we replace an existing outfit (like “jacket-05”) with this special uniform, it could solve the issue easily.
If you can create and upload this mod to the Workshop, I’d be very happy. A few friends of mine also want this uniform, and I’d love for others to enjoy it too. Thanks in advance!
Remember to start a new save
TLDR: Just because the launcher says a mod is outdated, doesn't mean it isn't working
But, I was discussing some of the ethics about that, I don't think it would be respectful for the families of the ones (KIA or not) to have their names and appearance put into a game so we can have fun
After all, most games have that "Characters shown here aren't based on real persons" warning for a reason
In light of my U-48 campaign, I've done some research about the boat and its crew.
For example, at the beginning of the war, the confirmed officers of U-48 were:
Commander (Kptlt.) Herbert Schultze
I. WO (LT) Reinhard Suhren (1st LT on 1 Oct. 1939)
II. WO (LT) Otto Christian Ites
LI (LT Ing.) Willi Edmund Lohner
That's also the structure of officers on all type VII and IX U-boats. The rest, like the radio operator or 2nd engineer were made up off NCO ranks.
Type II's had 3 officers + NCO's.
Type XXI's would have had 5 officers + NCO's.
I think, similar research can be done on other boats.
Pictures of them, if available at all, can best be found by Google search.
In theory, it's possible to even give their real names and all, but, the biggest challenge would be finding pictures of them working, etc.
And yes, it is updated, ignore the launcher warnings
I've set it as a requirement because it looks way better than vanilla
Needs more testing to see if the mod caused it or one of the beta bugs.
As for the icons, could you elaborate better? Have you started a new save? They just released a new patch
Regarding the NCO hat for the officer, go to the Crew datasheet, and inside the Unique Characters tab, you will be able to customize the starting officers for each campaign, click on the desired officer and find this parameter "cap": "",
Simply write Cap NCO inside the empty quotation marks, it will look like this:
"cap": "Cap NCO",
Sadly, it can only be done for starting officers, and if you give another hat to the officer that you assigned an nco hat at the files, that cap will be locked and you won't be able to re-equip him with the nco hat.
I hope this helps!
Nice work, GJC!
I'm interested to see how you made the radio officer start the game with an NCO cap. I tried that myself a few months ago and it didn't seem to work.
