Have to uninstall mod and roll back a save...
I recommend using Enhanced Armaments so you can craft better weapons. The Renegade assault rifle is easy to make. You can get enough materials in the first map to make multiple weapons and ammo.
I'd also recommend starting on a ship that has a Constructor/Deconstructor.
I start on the Knifetail-A, a very basic workshop ship. It's probably weaker than the Dugong but it's more practical and a bit faster.
I recommend using Enhanced armory with this mod. It won't help you much in the beginning, but it gets good when you can craft some better weapons.
The EWRush launch pods are perhaps one of the nastier aspects of this mod. There's not really much you can do to avoid them. If you try fleeing, the pods seem to get stuck hunting you and will pester you the entire mission (unable to actually land) - this is actually very annoying as you won't be able to hear anything and the pod target will buzz around your ship indefinitely.
Shooting incoming pods is quite useless as they can't really be destroyed, although they do take damage. Best you can do is get to the rooms quickly and attack them the moment they spawn.
Husk armors, they can be invincible when it water. They can withstand focus-fire from 3 coilguns with explosive ammo. A lot easier to kill in ship or simply ignore.
Destroyer robots, when ever you hear them, take AI crew off turrets, the moment you deal damage to them, they will be flagged hostile to your AI crew who will blow them up right next to the ship which is equivalent to a blown reactor or worse. Always kite and kill from a distance.
This mod is balanced in such a way that it promotes usage of other mods to balance it out. Mods such as Enhanced Armaments go well with it.
Do not think you can ever go toe-to-toe with an Exo-pirate if they have a ranged weapon. They have very strong weapons that will stun-lock you if one bullet connects. If anything you want an RPG or Anti-material rifle or cheese with grenades.
Similarly be weary of caves, there are typically groups of pirate elites in them that will focus-fire you from off-screen- enough to stun-lock you through a Riot shield.
Clowns are very tanky but not to the point you can't take them with conventional weapons. Beyond the Aphotic plateau they will spawn in large groups which give them perk synergy, making them incredibly tanky. Always kite when you see large groups.
