probably a weird comment but if you look at the vanilla_descriptors_graphics folder in the raws theres an image thats just a long line of colors.

The top line of pixels is the color palette the game is looking for, and then it goes down to the corresponding pixel in the same spot on the row that is defined by palette_default.txt. If you color using the shades in the top line of palettes.png it will translate correctly

not sure which it is but taking these mods (as well ass training hall) out of my mods list has fixed it and i can now build the shops.

It would be kind of funny to have a dwarf just randomly fall in by accident and get ground up into fertilizer (assuming the ore is getting put in the top and the ground ore is pulled out the bottom).
On a side note, I think it would be better to make the ore grinder be a multi-part structure powered by something like a windmill. You would have a drop location one level up where the ore would fall into an item chute, where it then gets ground up and spat out underneath. Also, it would be nice to have it also grind up rotten flesh/food/dead bodies/bones into fertilizer.

For some reason no workshops from mods show up in my build menu, but their "options" show up in the "stone use" screen, whereas it tells me I can grind ores. Any ideas?

can you make a magma blast furnace? what about an ore autogrinder that uses power from windmills/watermills?

In regards to adding more workshops, I don't see how it's any more complicated than making soap, to be honest. And once you have your head wrapped around that kind of production, anything else would probably be easier since it's regulated to just 1 industry.

I was having these crashing issues:

Crashes on multiple worlds when using other mods like training hall mod. As soon as I place the building it normally crashes, sometime it does not crash until they start building.

Bur I recently retried the mods and they are working together now.

i got them to make it i just had alot of jobs quied up and then some how he pulled adminite block type i though it was useing iron bars and a different block

I love that they've added at least some mod support to the game (classic was even jankier to mod) but I really hope they'll, uh, improve on it a bit in future.
Speaking of improvements - There is definitely an idea of building out the workshops, making more steps required to process stuff so there's more labor involved etc - but IDK if that'd also just end up being a complete mess / too complex to deal with. Anyone have thoughts on that?

For everyone having conflicts or issues building the workshops, I'm sorry I can't pinpoint the exact issue - I suspect that at the moment the civ modding might be a bit jank, particularly with other mods of basically any kind and flavor :KScared:

I have the crash issue, half the time i build the blast furnace I get an instant crash, (using other mods too), what can I do to help you find the conflict?

If this were refined to use like 2 or 3 more workshops (as honest means to get more materials and to keep dwarves busy) with a sprinkle of balance, this would be the coolest mod to exist alongside the magic update.

@CrazyLegs this is because better instruments replaces, rather than patches, the civilisatiton files so random instruments don't generate. load it before anything else and don't load with other mods that replace entity files, or manually patch the mods together - its quite easy

Heya just a heads up, but I believe there is a compatibility issue with the mod Better Instruments. Took me awhile to narrow it down, but I managed to recreate the conflict where I created a world with just those 2 mods. Basically, it makes it to where you can't see your workshops in the menu and they are therefore uncraftable. Just a fyi.

Not sure if it's the cause of the CTD's, but I saw somewhere that some mods that change UI stuff are incompatible with new mod added workshops. I have had CTD's with this and the training hall mod too, and am using several UI mods. I'll intentionally cause a crash and send you the log real quick.

Also getting an immediate crash.

I have a little more info though:
I built it first before any power-generators and it sat there not working, obviously. But no CTD.

I then deconstructed it, build a windmill, and the moment I try place a new grinder, CTD.

I will test an earlier save and see if I can build the grinder first and then the windmill...

I'm running it with Interface Tweaks, a no aquifer's mod (this is the most likely culprit since I need to put it up in the load order otherwise I end up with weird shit like layers of shimmering metal or whatever), see through engraving designations, and refuse-burning at the smelter. I'd link to them directly but it's early and my brain isn't 100% yet. I'll definitely post an error log next time I use it though.

@LordNecross I can't repeat the issue, let me know if it repeats on a fresh world if possible. May also be other mods conflicting or an issue with an updated version. Lemme know if you have any more info and I will look into it :csdread:

The ancient Norse actually used to use bone in the exact way you described in order to make steel, thinking that they were strengthening it with the spirits of their ancestors, but in fact just adding carbon to it. You appear to have accidentally made the steel making process more realistic.
