Any progress?
tsallast  [author] 13 Feb @ 8:40am
@Tapioka Sure! I forgot I was missing those, I'll get on em soonish (3-4 weeks)
Tapioka 31 Jan @ 8:58am
My nillians run has been so fun, and their visuals are great! Tsallast can you consider making sprites for baby or children Nillians?
2chuu4u 30 Jan @ 8:44am
Right on c:

I wish you luck tsallast! I'm glad you're still keeping up with things.
tsallast  [author] 29 Jan @ 5:01pm
@2chuu4u Thanks! I fidgeted around with the issue but could never get it right, it'll be whenever I update the project next, still trying to find a pixel artist for the portraits.
2chuu4u 8 Jan @ 10:05pm
I noticed a small oversight in your mod!
There are Nillians going around bald despite having "extremely long hair!"

This is because creatures hair grows continuously through their lives, and as Nillians are ageless, theirs will go far beyond the parameters set in the graphics_creatures_nillian.txt

It is easy to fix though. Simply removing the TISSUE_MAX_LENGTH parameter from the Hair 13 categories (there should be six) will apply the final Hair graphic to all Nillians sporting hair longer than 275.

@Fake Antivirus I'd love to! It's always on the back of my mind, I'm starting to look around for an artist that'd be willing to make them -- I certainly don't have the pixelart skills for it.
Fake Antivirus 12 Dec, 2024 @ 10:36am
is there a chance we'll be getting a portrait update to this mod? Only race mod i play with consistently, thank you!
Sirno 22 Aug, 2024 @ 6:04pm
they will be milked inshallah
2chuu4u 20 Jun, 2024 @ 3:55pm
@tsallast Seems as good a place to start as any.
Usually I am playing Kobolds, so I just try to horde books from Necromancer towers (it never ends well).

But I suppose these elf boys can also... Write the books :O
tsallast  [author] 20 Jun, 2024 @ 9:38am
@2chuu4u can't speak for other players, but for me, I love make fortress-libraries and roleplay as knowledgekeepers for the world
2chuu4u 19 Jun, 2024 @ 6:53pm
I'm curious, what do players like to do as these guys?

I think they're neat so I like having them in my world, but I don't know what I would want to do with a Nillian fort. Has anyone got up to anything neat? c:
tsallast  [author] 19 Apr, 2024 @ 8:59pm
@PussiMech yep, I've had a looksie thru em, it should just be that
PussiMech 19 Apr, 2024 @ 7:36am
@tsallast they added a portrait folder and a file that maps to it. i guess the difficult part is getting the actual art assets
tsallast  [author] 18 Apr, 2024 @ 9:01pm
@Kevin McScrooge
Yep! Unsure on how long it'll take, but I absolutely intend to get 'em some portraits.
I originally got into DF specifically for Adventure Mode, and made the Nillians intending to play as one in AM once it came out.
They should work on it out of the box btw! Just no portraits yet.
PussiMech 17 Apr, 2024 @ 2:02pm
@Kevin McScrooge i remember them saying theyd update. not sure if its still happening :0
Kevin McScrooge 16 Apr, 2024 @ 6:49pm
Any chance this will be updated for Adventure mode?
Thanks!
Still loving the mod btw.
tsallast  [author] 25 Mar, 2024 @ 6:33am
@Sturm Krahe Thanks! they started out as drow so you're spot on

@Fake Antivirus Could you try loading in a new world w/out Cooler World Names added to it? Best guess is its overriding the language files to add in different keywords

@Realm Imp inherent property of all librarians
Sturm Krahe 13 Mar, 2024 @ 4:42pm
I love these fellas, haven't played them yet but I'm doing a kobold fortress and a ton of them show up to entertain in my tavern or wanting to move in. It's real nice seeing interesting races added like this. Feels like one of those often overlooked DnD races.
Fake Antivirus 23 Feb, 2024 @ 9:40pm
Their language doesnt load in for whatever reason. I have the Cooler World Names mod, its the only one i can think of that might affect something like this, any idea what might be going on?
Realm Imp 13 Feb, 2024 @ 2:44pm
why are they so zesty
tsallast  [author] 11 Jan, 2024 @ 9:32am
@Kevin McScrooge Thank you so much! That made my day!
Kevin McScrooge 9 Dec, 2023 @ 10:48am
Just wanted to say that I love this mod and I've had a Nillian fort running for 8 years now and it's working great.
tsallast  [author] 9 Jul, 2023 @ 10:16am
Not yet, I'll probably give it an update once there's more things to cover (i.e adventure mode). Until then, the git repo for it is here: https://github.com/EliasADU/Nillians , if anybody wants to make any updates / pull requests, I'll definitely give them a look.
MangoCobra 6 Jul, 2023 @ 8:38pm
Did this get updated?
tsallast  [author] 21 Apr, 2023 @ 3:22pm
@darchala Thanks for the feedback! I actually never had enough time to do a full long term fort with them, so your comments are super useful :D
My gut instinct is that this is something to do with their relationship propensity, I'll look into it soon-ish.
Nice to hear you liked the bookcases :DD
darchala 16 Apr, 2023 @ 8:48pm
So I've played a couple of longer term forts with these little guys, and while they're really charming, I keep running into the same issue each time--while they value romance a lot, in practice they've been no more likely to actually form romantic relationships than dwarves. This isn't an issue of them lacking free time or venues to get together; mine are socializing a lot and have plenty of close friends!

The end result is that they all start to obsess over how lonely they are around the 5-10 year mark, and it really tanks their moods. My little nerds are constantly getting hammered by loneliness, apart from the tiny handful that managed to hook up or migrate with a spouse.

(Love those bookshelves though, fantastic addition.)
tsallast  [author] 3 Mar, 2023 @ 7:19pm
@ExistentialOcto Hi! Since they evolved parallel to elves, they're biologically immortal, and so won't die of old age.
ExistentialOcto 2 Mar, 2023 @ 5:03am
Hi! Generating a world now with these folks in it. Quick question: what is a nillian's max lifespan?
AlmaShade 21 Feb, 2023 @ 6:23pm
Too cute!
Can't let them die.
Please fix. :P
tsallast  [author] 26 Jan, 2023 @ 12:11pm
@Goon thanks! really appreciate it. I hope you enjoy it :D
Goon 26 Jan, 2023 @ 9:04am
Oooooh new update, thanks tsallast, I will look forward to trying this out.
Im sure it will be a great update for a a great mod. There is a lot of love put into this.
tsallast  [author] 20 Jan, 2023 @ 11:28am
Thanks!
birdman 19 Jan, 2023 @ 2:34pm
This is such a great mod! i love the art!
tsallast  [author] 15 Jan, 2023 @ 11:51am
Thanks! Means a lot to hear that
stormwolf442 15 Jan, 2023 @ 10:38am
Nice work!! Seriously, I love how thought out this race is, very well done Tsallast!
Alt 11 Jan, 2023 @ 1:18pm
@tsallast Yessums, pixels as in sprites. I'm sure you've made a lot of people excited with 'dat dere great news! I'm kind of hoping SEEU is said artist. Weither or not it is them - paint me the happy camper.
tsallast  [author] 11 Jan, 2023 @ 12:48pm
@Alt if you mean new sprites for them, yes! I can't promise them, but I'm getting help from a really great artist on a sprite revamp.
Not a lot of people have asked about it, so no worries!
Alt 11 Jan, 2023 @ 7:36am
Great mod, been having a blast myself with my Nillian waterfall fort. I hate tobe the hundredth person to ask this, but is there any plans for new pixels for these cute 'lil knife ears?
tsallast  [author] 9 Jan, 2023 @ 12:57pm
@Nettle thank you so much for the testing!

I'll be lowering the marriage chance in the next update, but it may take a bit since I want to jam in a couple cool new features / changes with it.

Mountain halls are cool! I still have to toy around with it, and I may end up going for them settling near rivers mainly, but we'll see.

Thanks for the help again!!
Nettle 9 Jan, 2023 @ 12:07am
So I did some testing. I think it's definitely romance that's doing it!

Side note, I also found out how to get Nillians to build mountain halls

[START_BIOME:MOUNTAIN]
[SETTLEMENT_BIOME:ANY_FOREST]
[SETTLEMENT_BIOME:MOUNTAIN]
[SETTLEMENT_BIOME:ANY_GRASSLAND]
[SETTLEMENT_BIOME:ANY_SAVANNA]
[SETTLEMENT_BIOME:ANY_SHRUBLAND]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_FOREST:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:MOUNTAIN:3]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_GRASSLAND:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_SAVANNA:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_SHRUBLAND:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_RIVER:1]

These modifications mean they stick close to mountains and this results in mountain halls. Really cool in my book.
tsallast  [author] 8 Jan, 2023 @ 1:18pm
Gotcha! Still something I'll be looking into for next update :D
Nettle 8 Jan, 2023 @ 1:01pm
It's not a huge deal, there's a way to restrict the number of starting civ's in the raws. So it can be tinkered with that way without changing anything, if it proves to be be bother.
tsallast  [author] 8 Jan, 2023 @ 12:55pm
@Nettle thanks!

It's not directly intended, and I'm going to be doing some testing for it. I believe that it's because they're VERY likely to marry when they get into romances, compared to other races. Therefore they have more kids, therefore there are more nillians roaming about.
If that's the cause for it, then I'll be lowering their marriage chance, since that isn't intentional.

If it's because their skill learning rate is high, then I'm OK with that unless it bothers people a lot, IMO it makes sense that the dominant civilizations would be ones that prioritize knowledge and learning.
Nettle 8 Jan, 2023 @ 9:11am
Happy to see this update!

I did want to note that it seems like the Nillians tend to kick ass during worldgen-outnumbering most other species. I don't know if this is intended, but I thought I should mention it!
tsallast  [author] 6 Jan, 2023 @ 5:44pm
@ghostofthewired This may be due to their lowered endurance. I'll have to do some testing, and if it is I'll probably bring it back up a bit until they can use wheelbarrows.

Thanks for bringing it up!
ghostofthewired 6 Jan, 2023 @ 3:10pm
My Nillians wont use wheelbarrows.....is this normal?
tsallast  [author] 6 Jan, 2023 @ 1:33am
@null I don't think there's a way to guarantee it 100%. Nillians send their caravans in Winter and Dwarves in autumn, so if you're settled near both a dwarven and a nillian settlement, you might get both.
So really it'd be more up to you, if you settle somewhere that's close to nillians but far away from dwarves (or try and generate a world with no dwarves), then you should be getting a nillian caravan yearly, and no dwarven one.
Onyx 5 Jan, 2023 @ 10:43pm
is there a way to make the yearly dwarf trader into a Nillians?
tsallast  [author] 5 Jan, 2023 @ 6:05pm
@Fath Glad to hear you're enjoying it! I bet those Nillians are having a blast learning about medicine.

I really like your idea for crafting foreign gear! I'll be looking into adding them into the next update. Thus far I was going to look into giving them large bookcases. Your idea sounds faster to implement so I'll probably give it a go first :D
