Map does not match that of server's (string table differs)
This is probably because of the way how you are handling them in this map, by putting them as a root file in the .vpk it somehow overrides other map's bsp-embedded string tables. Have you tried building them with stringtabledictionary instead? That way they get neatly bundled into the BSP file itself, resulting in zero need for manual file provision in the VPK while this also preventing other maps from loading this map's stringtables as an accident.
we've been playing on dedicated server
The credit scrolls to a black screen? That needs to be fixed
Боты тупят, не понятно что делать,невидимые текстуры. Только время зря потратил
Thank you!
That ending needs to be fixed asap!
Overall here's how I rate your map :
- Idea/Concept 10/10, reminds me of No More Room In Hell's objective maps.
- Map Layout 7/10, Could be better in terms of environnement but I know the source engine is rather annoying.
- Replayability 06/10, I like the idea and had the opportunity to see the map change, which was fun, the only problem is the fact that there are too many bugs which hinder the replayability.
- Functionality 02/10, I couldn't finish the map and ended up being unable to do anything, it would be nice if the bugs were fixed.
I give it a 6/10 in total.
- I reached an ending, the one where I had to replace the radio, the problem is that I ended up being softlocked, after picking up the new radio from the rooftop and getting the message "go back to the holdout", I wen't back to the military checkpoint and fought the tank, once it was dead nothing happened, I tried interacting with the radio, the antenna (generator), went back to the spawn on the rooftop and tried interacting with the table, went back to where I found the radio and had the same objective message to go back to the "holdout".
- The objective that asks us to "ask a survivor for a replacement radio" is confusing, I spent a lot of time searching for a door on the rooftops (the one with the lid for the cola), thinking that I had to speak with a survivor. (Turns out the radio is on a table with weapons and you can just pick it up).
- The game may sometimes softlock the player after filling the van with the 5 jerrycans, the van won't move.
- I usually ended up dying due to the inability of my teammates (AI) to find a path to me, it would seem that their pathing is broken, the spawn area locks one of the teammates as it can't find any path to navigate and the other can't walk down the stairs to the street exit.
- The bridges that are built will not be usable by the teammates (AI).
- The ladder that spawns in the broken road is bugged and will prevent the player from climbing and getting out, had to parkour my way out from the red truck.
(I'll follow this review in four comments, steam doesn't allow more than 1000 characters)
I've spent a few hours trying to complete the map and I've come to see many things.
I actually gave up on the map, after dying multiple times to gravity (my own mistakes as I tried finding shortcuts), I reached the ending and I actually couldn't see it, got stuck and since I had spent the last few hours trying to reach it, I gave up.
Here is a list of things that I found. (Spoilers)
- From times to times, the map will tell us that we can build a bridge over a perfectly fine road (which I suppose should be broken).
- Using the van to breach through the barricades is useless, as the invisible barrier is still there, even after killing the tank, getting us into a softlock.
- The infected, as long as you're not in the expert difficulty, have seemingly left the city.
(Note that even in expert, only 3 or 5 infected run at us, and only when we open a door with an alarm).
The open nature of the map made it very difficult for me to create this map properly.
Navs were impossible to make correctly due the various roads placements.
I will try my hand with a more linear project and i'm thankful to everyone saying nice things, this is my first map and its a good boost of morale.
I'm glad you're liking it. But this kind of map was not really that easy to build, i've come across a lot of problems and hit the limit so many times i couldn't even finish it it the way i had intended.
I'm guessing a more linear style of mapping is what works with source, but i will definitely try again once i know the engine a bit more!
Well i hope you enjoy it!
That's something i didn't actually know, thank you for showing me this, i will update it soon!
