Best mod ever, I would say :approved:

Hey all - surprised to see this getting attention after so long. I never made any progress learning modding beyond this basic experiment so I probably won't be developing this any further. The update that FrostyFrency made is an objectively better version of this mod at this point -Frosy/others feel free to remix/repost this mid as much as y'all want.

Honestly now I kind of want to give all the colored chocobos different effects...
Red: Magma safe
Blue: Walk on water
Etc...
lol

Frosty thank you!

Did it myself.

Messed around with this a lot, biggest change besides the feather colors is only males are war-trainable. Egg layers who are war trained act weird without a pasture, just easier this way.

odd i nnever get asked to update when i load in after you update
MVRITR3VA  [author] 5 Feb, 2023 @ 3:52pm
@Synchin: I can't think of anything that would cause that behavior aside from -maybe- the [MEANDERER] tag, and that was removed in the first update since it doesn't play nice with war trainable animals. Are you running the most recent version of the mod? Are any other creatures showing the same behavior?
Sychin 5 Feb, 2023 @ 3:39pm
I did notice that even after I pasture them in a room. They sometimes leave it and go to the closest meeting hall, and just hang there till someone can re-pasture them.

@HCM EVMuffin: As mentioned in the description, they can be domesticated by civilizations during worldgen, which (I believe) is more likely the more settlements a given civilization has that happen to overlap with chocobo habitats (i.e. temperate planes and savannas). Beyond that, which civilizations have access to them are random - you can try embarking from other parent civilizations to see if anyone else in your world has domesticated them. You can also add [COMMON_DOMESTIC] tag to their entity file to guarantee they spawn along with the other common livestock.
HCM EVMuffin 4 Feb, 2023 @ 8:49pm
So where are you allowed to take them, Every place I go to tells me they cant be taken as animals
MVRITR3VA  [author] 4 Feb, 2023 @ 9:35am
@Synchin they are not grazers
Lizy_Sticks 4 Feb, 2023 @ 7:27am

Sychin 3 Feb, 2023 @ 10:36pm

Lizy_Sticks 3 Feb, 2023 @ 12:48pm

@Lizy_Sticks: Highlighting should be fixed in the most recent update. Re. War Chocobo sprites - I'm not a sprite artist (the sprites used here were ripped from Final Fantasy VI), so that's not something I'm able to add without it looking terrible. If someone is willing to contribute the sprites, I'll add them.
Lizy_Sticks 3 Feb, 2023 @ 10:49am
can war chcobos have the armored chcoc sprite plz :D
Sychin 31 Jan, 2023 @ 9:05pm

ya thay may not have bin fertilized the wikie says thay still sit on dead eggs i havent gone back to try a new clutch
MVRITR3VA  [author] 13 Jan, 2023 @ 11:57am
@Lizy_Sticks: So the egg laying/hatching parameters are identical to ostriches aside from the brood size (Max number of eggs was reduced to 5) - everything should work any other egg-laying species. Are you playing with other mods? Have you been able to get other eggs to hatch?
Lizy_Sticks 12 Jan, 2023 @ 11:39pm
there not hatching the eggs =/ what am i doing wrong ?
Darmak 10 Jan, 2023 @ 8:54am
I like that you decided not to just make them automatically domesticated. Having guaranteed access to stuff is nice and all, but I like the randomness of if a civ decides to domesticate them or not during worldgen.
MVRITR3VA  [author] 26 Dec, 2022 @ 11:17am
They're tagged with [pet] but not [common domesticated], so any civilization that encounters them during worldgen can potentially domesticate them. Habitat is temperate grasslands and savannahs, so civs with a lot of settlements in those regions have a higher chance of using them.
Ultimuh 26 Dec, 2022 @ 3:23am
Which civilizations has access to these?
Can we see human caravans utilizing them?
Yinyang107 25 Dec, 2022 @ 6:53am

I'm pretty sure grazers can't lay eggs/use nest boxes. I can't remember where I read that though.
Advocated Edict 24 Dec, 2022 @ 8:41pm
Kweh! :>
MVRITR3VA  [author] 23 Dec, 2022 @ 8:49pm
They are not tagged as grazers, though admittedly I had trouble deciding whether to categorize them as such or not.
Kasa 23 Dec, 2022 @ 8:10pm
do the need a outside pasture or do they not need to eat?
MVRITR3VA  [author] 23 Dec, 2022 @ 6:58pm
They lay clutches of 3-5 eggs, and cannot be milked. They also can be farmed for gizzard stones like Ostriches.
Frontline 23 Dec, 2022 @ 6:31pm
Do they give eggs? Or they, like horses can be milked?))
