Sorry to say but not interested in doing rimworld mods anymore with how this new update went, I recommend DetVisor's weapons as a replacement.

@Halituis Amaricanous Ah, yeah that makes total sense! Hadn't considered the fire and wasn't aware they were considered explosive weapons in game.

To be fair though, the raging inferno of a stockpile detonation would aid in cooking said deer.

@BOYCOTT S-T-E-A-M! yes they don't work for hunting as they are considered explosive guns in game, its a preventive measure from the game to stop pawns from automatically using these guns as they can start random fires on their own, so when you have a deer run next to your stockpile of warheads and your pawn is set to auto fire nearby the building it wont do something terrible that is not directly from the players control. Same for explosive weapons.

Enjoying these weapons a good bit. I want to second @ClockJerk in that a turret version would be pretty awesome.

One question though, is it intended that these weapons don't count as a hunting weapon? Anyone equipped with these weapons won't hunt and triggers the "hunter lacks a ranged weapon" notification.

a turret version of this would go hard and (at least until they fix it) you have made something capable of combating V.O.I.D that's not easy to do congratulations and love the mod

Love the mod, however the lore reason why mechanoids only have beam guns does make sense from a irl standpoint. Grasers (Gamma ray lasers) do produce a lot of radiation (It's literally firing gamma radiation, what do you expect?), which is harmful to us squishy meatbags

Note: Beam weapons are not very good vs Mechanoids :D. This should have been obvious to me since a big draw is HEAT damage over time, but well....some things must be tested lol. Thankfully my fully bionic'd power armor'd melee berserker man was nearby and singlehandedly slew everything for my beam guy. Beams are great on all organic hard targets though, like insects!

@Lennybolt7 are they no able to use them? I have not dabbled with the VE pirates stuff becuse it adds so much, but I can take a look.
@Itzal by all means, love to see what ya come up with.
@Master Sheesh Newton came up with the names, but I never noticed the FTL calls until you mentioned it, lol.
@Leaky But Whole ya, the guns technically count as explosives, the way the game sees it if you used the guns for hunting it will cause fires. so when you are hinting a deer you could also be causing 30 wildfires across the map and it might destroy the hunters meat. that's also why explosive weapons cant be used for hunting.
@Pearific Ya, hope more people do unique stuff like this the game is just ripe for creative ideas.

These look amazing, I'm tempted to make some of my own beam weapons and make an beam weapon mod that ties in Project Fortuna, my main mod. Of course, i'll credit ya n' list this as a requirement

here's an idea (For all your other "heavy weapons" in other mods as well), if you have "Vanilla Factions Expanded: Pirates, along with Vanilla Weapons Expanded: Heavy, then if you have Warcaskets, you should be able to use those to carry it as well (It should act as "heavy armour")

@dendroid101 cool, the sounds for this mod was made by PowerSurge 1 Sound Effects Library by sound ideas, its good for what ya need it for but clear it was made in the past and doesn't match the ideas we were trying to go for, but if you have ideas for new stuff would love to hear ya out!

@Ralathar44 funny ya say that we had ideas for a beam like shotgun works similar to that but dropped it because it didn't fit with the whole single target focus idea we had for the beam guns.
but still is a fun idea.

I'll try the mod out, but one thing I'm seeing missing is prolly something akin to a short range "fan" beam weapon. Something that targets all enemies in an arc or range of cells and then ramps up and starts cooking them. The limitations ofc are the short range and rampup time meaning oyu basically require a melee meatwall to use it effectively, but against swarms of smaller enemies or against tougher enemies while behind your melee wall it could be quite effective. This would obvious do less DPS than a single target version :P.

The ranged version of this would prolly affect a small "bubble" of users. Maybe something like all enemies in a 1x3 area.


When compared to direct hard damage AOE weapons these would be lower damage, slower TTK on soft targets, and prolly more problematic (setting lots of things on fire can be good OR bad). But safer (friendly fire with rockets and grenades hurts) and against swarms of medium to hard targets could exclipse the DPS of other AOE weapons.

@JessieFeathers nah the Biotech beam guns do a completely different deal than these guns. the greaser beams just set ya on fire while these do a little more. very proud with the way the team made them.
