Dude, it's a heavy machine gun chambered in a regular rifle round and it's not even belt-fed. I don't care how good it is in theory, especially considering how much a pain in the ass the production of these finned barrels must be.
Uso 15 Jan, 2024 @ 9:38am
Also, I might add that the Type 92 also beat both the 50cal and the 30cal in accuracy testing, which means, paired with the scope, you don't want to be anywhere near its "medium range" placement. I rest my case.
Uso 15 Jan, 2024 @ 9:36am
Nice goalpost moving. Nobody would argue that it is better or as good as Browning. It was an emplaced machine gun that won every trial the Imperial Japanese Army put it through, against every other nations' HMG in 1907.

The reason the army put "few" resources into replacing it is because it performed its specific job well, which was consistent fire support.

As I've said probably three times now, the Type 92 could theoretically be fired forever without stopping due to the way it is loaded and the way the barrel works. If you want to argue, even a 50cal can't do that without the downtime of a reload.

Are you gonna argue that this thing was somehow superior to the M1919 and other contemporary machine guns?
Uso 15 Jan, 2024 @ 4:11am
I recommend looking up how this weapon was meant to be operated and what composes it before you critique its efficacy in any way.
It has giant heat fins all over it (so you never have to replace the barrel.)
It has feeding strips so that the loader can keep feeding them indefinitely.
It has nitro shells to reduce flash and smoke to a vague flicker, rendering them extremely hard to detect (The Japanese were concerned with the amount of smoke and flash produced by their machineguns - in the 1930s they developed double nitro based propellants - nitrocellulose combined with nitroglycerine to reduce smoke and flash)
It was aligned by the naval factories, not the army factories, so the barrels are incredibly accurate.
They were also frequently given scopes, so they could basically be used as automatic sniper rifles. I understand if you are critiquing it because you don't know what it is or how it was used or what parts comprise it, but I assure you it is a beautiful "sum of its parts."

Having to replace an ammo strip every 30 shots is slower than sticking a 100/200-round belt and watching it feed smoothly no matter how you look at it. Add to that the oiling system and overall maintenance requirements and you'll get something that is as effective as a box-fed LMG whose sole benefit is its stability due to how massive the gun and its mount is.

Still, it was one of the most effective Japanese weapons regardless. Which admittedly isn't saying a lot.
Uso 15 Jan, 2024 @ 12:39am
The firerate wasn't "severely limited" - this machinegun was operated by a team - one who fires, and another who is constantly feeding the belt with more ammunition. In practice, the fire coverage is effectively infinite.

That would require to modify its script and/or sound to make if fire faster like the real thing. Not impossible, but gonna be challenging.

can you do an MG42 version for the cal. 50 turret please?

How did I miss this late xmas gift? Very nice, I wonder if adding the sounds from rising storm is possible?

Usually not, because they tend to be the "make a weapon you're not interested in from a game you're not interested in". But you can try.

It is known by Australian forces during WW2 as the woodpecker because of the slow rate of fire like a woodpecker pecking.

I've no idea which sound it uses in WaW. Most likely the same as the .30 cal.
