Good news and bad news.

The good news:
You cannot ask someone if you have 2 or more empires to be your vassal, this wasnt broken in cosmic storms or grand archive.

Bad news:
You can request to be a vassal of someone who was 2 or more empires as vassals already. I didnt know this was happening because I only checked if you can ask someone to be your vassal.

I'll try to fix this, if you dont see an update by thanksgiving it didnt happen.

I think it did break it only because I just played a match where they vassaled the whole universe so I think it's busted :'(

@goodytwoshoes I've tried to figure this out, but with a family and job... I haven't had time to check or even update this as of yet. I hope the galactic storms didn't break this.

Is it possible to completely remove vassals? I love this mod regardless however, thank you so much!

A bit of an update:
An empire can have more than 2 vassals if an empire asks to be a vassal even if the empire has 2 vassals.

Trying to figure out how to stop this, but this is incredibly rare regardless.

I was actually about to let this mod die because I felt like it's lost it's popularity and nobody cared... and I switched computers, so updating it to the public would suck.

That being said. . .

Playing with this in 3.12, have confirmed it is causing the "Offer Trade Deal" option in the Diplomacy Screen to not show up. Was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this?

The problem with the AI declaring was on someone to make them a vassal, while also have 2 vassals already, has been fixed.

Discovered what's causing it: The AI is able to declare war to make someone a vassal while having 2 or more vassals. I'm currently trying to fix this.

This mod might not be working.

For some reason it's been working until my recent playthrough that started a few days ago, I'm unsure of what's causing this issue. Because this is vital to my own playthroughs, I'll be trying to get it to work.

Thanks for putting in the work! In the hands of players, vassals are laughably OP. In the hands of AI, they are super annoying to deal with. Would love to see the mod that removes vassals completely to be updated and confirmed to work - but for now this will do as a good upgrade to vanilla :)

So with the recent paragons DLC I decided to try to play stellaris again, and since I can't stand playing it without my own mods, I updated this one.

The bug which Yulia mentioned is, hopefully, addressed. I believe it only needs a change to the diplomatic actions file, which I updated.

If the bug is still present, let me know.

Apologies for the delay, I didn't have the money to get the First Contact DLC which means I couldn't have fixed it(so I'm told). I got the DLC recently which is how I managed to update this.

Burning Galaxy should still be ok, "No Vassals" mod hasn't been updated yet.

I recently quit my real life job, and won't be taking another one soon.

I have worked on this last night, however, due to how recent 3.7 is, nobody knows exactly whats going on with the bug Yulia mentioned.

I'm working on it as I type this, but no promises on fixing the pre-FTL problem.

There's also a surprise in store that will be released *tonight*.

As of version 3.7, this mod causes you to be unable to do espionage on Pre-FTL civs.

Like you increase the base value of proposing vasalation to like -1000 which basicly result in nobody being able to ask for vassals?

Hello Volkov, can you also mod the propose vassalisation. and only leave war as a way of getting vassals.
Or is that not possible? ( or do you not know)

I'll try to get around to it this weekend, but I've been very busy irl.

I could just make a copy of this mod for 0 vassals and a copy for 1 ect, but I think that's too lazy.

I want this mod to give people the option to choose the amount when game starts, or maybe even after game starts.

This mod was made mostly just for me, which is why I haven't gotten around to it in a month.

maybe you could make a mod that would give you 2 extra options when creating a galaxy? The first option would allow you to set a vassal limit, for example 1-5-infinity.
The second option allowed you to increase or decrease the willingness to become a vassal because currently, after losing the war, Ai himself often offers to be a vassal to his ally, mimi that he has a similar economy and technology and can quickly rebuild the fleet, all because of the bad balance of diplomatic power from the fleet... i hope paradoxs finaly repair fleet power

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, holidays and whatnot.

So after some playtesting of my own, I've discovered that the AI can get more than 2 vassals by two ways:
Secret Fealty Wars
Declaring war on somebody whom has vassals while they have 1 vassal.

It sounds like somebody had 1 vassal, went to subjugation war with somebody with 2(because they can't if they have 2), and gained them, plus the other 2, bringing that to 4.

When I edit in the option to choose how many vassals somebody can have I will fix these 2 issues, likely this weekend. This should be easy, I'll just make it so you can't declare subjugation war on somebody with vassals or pledge fealty to somebody with 2 vassals.

This will still allow you to get more if 2 people pledge fealty, you go to war with their shared overlord, while having a vassal, so you end up with 3..... but this would be such a rare instance I don't think it matters too much.

Great Mod! The Ai vassalizing everything really took the fun out of the game in my opinion, especially if the ai has so many that it would make the EU4 HRE jealous. So thanks for the Mod!

I'm going to add it to my plan for when I put a start of game settings popup, to allow the player to decide "no vassals" or "only vassals through war" or "only vassals through diplomacy" as well as how many vassals Empires may have.

I like giving people as many options as possible in how they play, so it's definition on the drawing board. It's just with this being my second mod ever, I'm still learning how things work within the code.

maybe instead of no vassals you could make a mod that basically disables diplomatic subjugation and only lets you gain vassals through conquest

@ulthar I plan on adding an option for you to select how many vassals you want empires limited to sometime after New Years.

No ETA but it's certainly something I think will really open this mod up to a lot of people.

this is actually brilliant. I end up getiing offers to vassalize and I think it's cheaper than war, but it sort of makes you steamroll the galaxy.

One simple solution is create a 2,3,4,

I think 3 is good because you can have a scholarium, propspectium and bulwark. When I play a conquest empire though I like to create tons of vassals rather than automate sectors.
