seems to make glass shards really bright, most noticeably in the gun shop when you break the glass cases

@Poleeyan put this mod above or below the other mods in addonlist.txt or leave it how it is, most mods dont really conflict with this, they just have the .vmt as a backup and niko edited all the .vmts

I know another mod that also removes the shine from the models, but the problem with this one is that it downscales the textures and removes the fog.

it doesnt remove any reflects (you mean reflections) it removes the random shine of props that dont need it, like the water coolers. also the name is for.. lets just say less competent people who dont know much about source.

My guy, I've done just as much work with Valve material files and in no way did I ever encounter the bugs you're talking about, nor is it documented anywhere. Should you provide with the evidence of that fact, otherwise Diffuse is Diffuse, Specular is Specular. Plain and simple.

There's nothing to prove. They are two different material settings. Clearly you have no idea how to differentiate specular from phong.

In case you didn't know. Nearly everything other than survivors and specials have no proper normals outside a generic flat square to save on memory and add a very basic sheen that reacts to lights.

Specular reflections use cubemaps preset/auto generated in the map and have no support for lights in L4D2 hence why they are making objects glow in the dark often due to poor cubemap placement.

env_map was a cheap way to add reflections in at the time. Especially for the 360 port.

i didnt remove the bump maps of the vmts i removed a line called env_cubemap

Removing the bump in the game only leads to the fact that the graphics become disgusting. The problem of l4d is that the bump in this game is broken. It needs to be fixed and not removed.

My guy, my poor guy. VMT files can be searched in bulk with notepad++ and have their content replaced or commented out. I feel sorry for you if you actually did this manually. A good favor no less, but you went through a lot of effort that could have been less, it's commentable but be sure to check out for alternatives before commiting to such ideas.
