Have you considered polishing icons of units? Their resolution is low and it doesn't look well. Anyway great job!
Sorry for being annoying, I really should have learned to mod Civ and did it myself, just don't have the time or strength when bombings intensified (I'm in Odesa).
Like samurai but with bows to replace Japanese crossbowmen,
Ashigaru but with pikes to replace Japanese pikemen,
and Sohei but with guns as stand-alone unit for later faith purchase.
It will make Japan more historically accurate as the base of their army by 15-17 centuries were pikes and bows, and warrior monks were specific units centered around temples i.e. Ishiyama Honganji...
I really like colorful ashigaru you made with various clans coat of arms... And the current Sohei with naginatas are fine, just don't feel they should be replacing pikemen. Early Japan with swordsmen is correct, it's good samurai replace Men at Arms.
I'll play China next when I have time!
Your Ashigaru and Tanegashima from CIVITAS Oda mod both work at the same time, and look distinct enough. His unique unit is a straight downgrade, but he gets them for free in every capital for garrison so no complaints here. But if you nerf Ashigaru musketmen, keeping their unique skills but taking their power down, it won't be bad (historically they had inferior muskets).
Yabusame archers are real good! It would be perfect if we had a foot version of Yumi Samurai replacing crossbowmen as I never actually see a Japanese crossbowman out of Civ game. Just for flavor, you know. Maybe even just vanilla samurai model with a bow...
Feudal Japanese armies in Renaissance were essentially walls of Ashigaru with very long pikes and some archers in-between, sometimes cavalry and gun units supporting them based on availability. Warrior monks by that period did upgrade to guns, but were still a religious unit tied to monasteries.
So perfect feudal Japan army would have Ashigaru pikes, Samurai archers and monks guns on top of what you already added... Will play some more now! Thanks again for making this.
@Doc_Furtado Well, well, which news?
I do have some suggestions that might be useful.
The Mongols may use the tammači. The tammači were formed by non-Mongols. They were said to be vanguards during wartime and garrison forces during peace. A melee cavalry with some garrison bonus (perhaps add loyalty to city?) could be interesting.
There is also the Hui Hui Pao counterweight trebuchet crafted by Muslim engineers. But I remember Steel and Thunder already have the Hui Hui Pao? Anyway, I would use Hui Hui Pao for my Dynasty Uniques mod.
I don't know much about the Vietnamese history, but they seem to have used some sorts of wooden crossbow. They even have a legend about using a divine crossbow to defeat Zhao Tuo of the Nanyue. Since Voi Chien is a crossbowman replacement, you may want to find another unit to replace. Maybe the skirmisher.
