Guys, there is a very good reason for this mod: population control. This is actually useful if you're having FPS trouble (or trying to avoid it in the first place). It's not a political statement, it's just how the mechanics of this game work and this mod is obviously intended to make these animal reproduction mechanics easier to manage at a glance. Anyone drawing any other meaning out of this mod is just projecting.

In a world where males and females are identical but from reproduction I actually don't see a point in distinguishing the two sexes, I would probably better like a distinction based on attributes or skills...
Hopefully in the future Toady will have attribute changes/modifyers based on gender along with the inclusion of intersex dwarves and creatures

Like Caves of Qud having gender and pronoun options. There's a mod that enables it but the code already exists in the game to begin with as a planned feature.

@Lizy_Sticks on its own, no, but the mod files (in steamapps/common/Dwarf Fortress/mods/gendernamecolors) includes a python script to generate creature raws to apply the colors to modded creatures.

though i possibly could also include modules that apply the colors to creatures from popular/common mods, too.

@akvage, that's not a bug, that's just how creatures in water names show up, even with no mods

Perfect, I was trying to think how to deal with this. I've recommended this for my creature mods, as even more names can get cut off in those, than in vanilla. You saved me going off on a modding wild goose chase, and I hadn't even thought of this neat solution.
