Works for me as of date of this post. at least in fortress. Sometimes i notice however that before combat he wont take throwing axes and will just run up and melee whatever enemy he is facing. But i see the unit use axes sometimes during archery training.

Awesome!

@MangoCobra, this uses the Throwing skill!
MangoCobra 7 Jun, 2023 @ 11:49am
What skill does this weapon use?

@Action Bastard, Im afraid we'll have to wait for the ammunition screen, I am having the same issue. The only workaound I can suggest is to equip and/or produce only one type per fort. Not ideal I know, but until we can manually select ammunition thats all we can do!
Action Bastard 26 May, 2023 @ 9:48am
That is great to hear! But I have had a recent issue with this mod, My dwarves with crossbows (they come to the fortress as hunters,) will pick up incompatible ammo, (axes for crossbows, and bolts for axes) is there anything that can be done, or will we have to wait for an ammunition screen? regardless, thank you for such a cool mod.:urist:

@Action Bastard: Absolutely!

Can I have my dorfs use throwing axes and shields?
Thomrade  [author] 2 Feb, 2023 @ 10:35am
@Digganob - Yep I am planning on it, just haven't had free time to work on mods (or play DF). I should probably get to it in the next week.

@LuthiX, Id love to have on-sprite graphics for the axes to show them equipped. I need to dig into other mods that add weapons on-sprite to see how to achieve it. Ill take a look at that issue you raised too.

Hey I just noticed you haven't put out a universally craftable throwing axe mod yet, I was just wondering if you were still planning on it?
LuthiX 2 Feb, 2023 @ 9:42am
Good mod, strong but no where near overpowered. Would be neat to see them holding an axe, maybe one in each hand like your preview image. I noticed in the metalsmith there in a reaction to cast throwing axes and you can also go weapons -> steel -> forge throwing axes, seems redundant. Also, if you make a squad with the last throwing axe as the uniform when you select new squad members it just says "unskilled in". Thank you.

@Googley Eye'd Bastard: They do yeah. All ranged weapons require a quiver as far as I can tell in the vanilla game.
Googley Eye'd Bastard 1 Feb, 2023 @ 4:27pm
Do the throwing axe's that are ammo require a quiver same as a crossbow?
Londo 31 Jan, 2023 @ 8:17pm
cleaver fix ;p
Count 31 Jan, 2023 @ 7:54pm
@Comrade Tum, that's a remarkably sensible point!!
I'm sold. Going to try throwing axes as a way to approximate the power of baby dwarf fists. :P
Thomrade  [author] 31 Jan, 2023 @ 7:15am
@TylerLad, yeah throwing can be a bit overpowered (since it was never really intended to be a combat skill) especially as the dwarves level up, but conversely I've seen unarmed dwarven children solo a forgotten beast, so legendary axe throwers splitting elves in half from fifty paces doesn't seem so out of place :P
Count 30 Jan, 2023 @ 8:00am
Thanks for your work and the detailed response to comments!

The wiki lists the throwing skill as "hilariously overpowered". I must admit to avoiding this mod due to that implication, haha.

But I will try to do some testing at some point. LOVE the idea of your mods adding these weapons

@pete8719: Apologies, there was a typo in the graphics loading section of the mod. It should be resolved now, in v1.4
pete8719 27 Jan, 2023 @ 9:25pm
There's an error on trying to load it now, says a graphics is not found.

@Googley Eye'd Bastard:

The "Last Throwing Axe" is a seperate weapon to the actual projectiles yes. You could indeed have a steel 'thrower' and iron throwing axes; When a dwarf enters melee he will use the range weapon (like a crossbow, or this 'last throwing axe') as a melee weapon; the stats of that are a less powerful version of the default axe. Same for the thrown projectiles, they aren't as strong as a regular axe, because theyre much smaller and lighter, but they are more powerful than a crossbow bolt.

I've set them to use the THROW/Throwing skill (Same across all three mods; Slings, Javelins and Throwing Axes) and Putnam suggested that it *should* work with archery targets as well. I will test in game.
Googley Eye'd Bastard 27 Jan, 2023 @ 12:47pm
Awesome, I really love the idea but when you mean last throwing axe are you saying that functionally the dwarf is carrying a axe that is the "crossbow" and the actual throwing axes count as ammo? Does this mean we can have a higher quality steel Last axe and regular iron axe ammo? Does this train the same way with the archery targets? and how much damage does a thrown axe do? is it functionally the same as an axe hit just at range?
Moisesjns 27 Jan, 2023 @ 10:33am
awesome!
Thomrade  [author] 27 Jan, 2023 @ 3:49am
@SilverBullet: Its using 'crossbow' as a ranged skill, as current dwarves have no way to train throwing skill outside of throwing things while having a tantrum.

@Digganob: Sure I can, Ill try get it up later today.
SilverBullet 27 Jan, 2023 @ 12:54am
what's skill used for throwing? crossbow? bow? blowgun?
Digganob 26 Jan, 2023 @ 11:54pm
Could you make a version of this mod where all civs have access to throwing axes? This is really cool, but I'd like to see other civs using them.
