Also mercenary perks do not affect the custom mercenaries, I assume its not possible for that change.
I feel like there could be a better mercenary mod, but it seems the tools to make one just aren't there.

Yes in my mod file called sp_mercs.xslt you add

under eg. Empire - so it looks like this instead of only Centurions..

hit save and you have both
as stated above, my mods are very simple, dont be afraid of changing them
i do recommend you get it from nexus instead and unsubsrice here, but as i am not making changes it should not be overwritten by steam.
Works for new game or Can be added to save game - but if you remove this mod again then Calradia will be populated with parties with units that does not exist anymore = crash, as units goes into gamecode.

my thougt was that a lot of costum units were made for RBM - look at https://www.nexusmods.com/mountandblade2bannerlord/mods/791 "Requirements" and "Mods requiring RBM" and this mods would not be missed :o)
You could ask the Improved Garrison modder if non vanilla mercs or troops has impact on his mod… but I’ve used that for my self for over a year with non vanilla normal troops and mercs and also my little warband and have never had any problems.
But it suddenly created an unfixable crash on my campaign, after around 3 years. It could be, that "Improved Garrisons" is also a part of the problem, but the main exception is thrown by this mod.
The crash happened on 12:00 midday, when the troop wages are collected. And it seems that the system had problems to do this for mercs in castles, where you spend them into the garrison, after conquering them. At first I was able to just load an older safe, conquer the castles again and just don't station mercs, but after some time, quite a lot of my lords had mercs and so they would station them into every castle they conquered.
This was on M&B v1.1.5, so not sure if this bug exists in v1.2 now, but I wanted to mention it :)
yes they are not made for RBM
well except the bow maidens and valks they do no dmg

Vanilla Mercenaries are OUT of the game, leaving you only Caravan Guards besides Elites. Vlandia should have swordsmen and crusaders, tested for my self yesterday on 1.1.4
Try to unsub and sub the mod if you still have issues and load mod last
This mod is made for vanilla bannerlord and not for RBM, some of armor will have RBM stats and others i have tweaked myself will probably be to low in stats.. but it will work. If you load this one last after make calradidia greay again it will probably also work.. don’t know if that mod has unique mercs but this one wil overwrite them if loaded last.
If make calradia great again mod has own merc and you also use RBM i would leave out my mod if i was you.. but up to you.
They are later taken over by the turkic themed sarranids so units like ghazis would also make sense.
If not you found your problem, if you are on 1.1.0 or above then start at game only using this mod and if it crash i would like to hear from you.
If you have a savegame using the older Elite Mercenaries Mod you can not update to this one because of changes and XML cleaning i had to do - annoying..... i know.…But give it a try in your next game.

Right now im playing 1.1.2. But that Bug with crafted weapons which changes stats when you save load is really annoying 😖
If not you found your problem, if you are on 1.1.0 or above then start at game only using this mod and if it crash i would like to hear from you... i have 100+ hours testing with this mod and 500-600 hours with the former and they are alike... only XML - no code - can only crash if TW changes troop/Merc XML build, which they havent.
