If interested, I do maintain an updated version that is safe to use with SFO:

Key differences being:
-Miscast debuff now only affects units that are friendly to the caster thus enemy units are not impacted
-Removed damage dealt by miscasts so no more mage nuking in enemy units/armies
-Slightly stronger and longer lasting debuff

Now there are *no* benefits to miscasts, and thus you must be much more careful with it and actually put points into miscast chance reduction

So this is of course a well needed mod and I like the explosion and damage, but I find the malus on units too punishing (especially when the AI casts it's stupid spells while in the fray, even my units are struck with the debuff oO)

Is there a chance to have a version with only explosion damage for units while keeping the malus for the caster ?

Reverted to the pre-Chaos Dwarfs version so that you can play SFO with the old rollback versions available through Steam betas until SFO update.

steams mod features are abysmal (no previous versions). so how am i supposed to run this on a rollback if you update before sfo?

I hope the miscast can damage the own caster a lot more, to incentivize players to actually use items and banners that diminish the miscast chances. The original mod is pretty much a buff, you want the miscast to happen because of it's area of effect damage (it looks pretty cool tho)

That's SFO's gimmick, they add a miscast chance to all spells. You may not have noticed it prior because of how missable vanilla miscasts are. What I have done with the newer versions of Miscast Mod is tier the damage to the spell level so that low spell level miscasts, which SFO causes a lot of, won't cause excessive damage.

Everything is working great. But... It seems like every spell I cast is miscasting. 25% chance Miscast, with a -20% miscast item. Did a couple spells. Both Miscast. Enemy does a spell, miscasts.

Do 3 healing spells with 25% miscast, 2/3 miscast.

I dunno If I'm just getting weird rolls with it, or if there's something broken.
I have a ton of other mods, but nothing that touches magic except SFO

Yeah I doubt this mod would cause any instability like that, the tables changed are only called upon when casting a spell or miscasting, if a crash happened then you could cast an eye of suspicion at it.

I've been getting more crashes post-battle and loading/saving since March 13.

This mod was the only one in my modstack that got an update that recently so I've disabled it for now.

Update: Fixed giving missile spells a different cooldown contact effect mechanism to prevent delayed launching of the missile after a miscast.
