True, but the game uses hay for thatch, but it should technically be straw. Sapiens combines them into one resource for simplicity, so hay + straw are interchangeable

When you grow a cereal crop the stem of the plant is either retained as 'straw' and used for animal bedding or it is shredded and returned to the soil.

'Hay' is made from grass grow specifically for the purpose and then dried.
