New map coming soon! Barn Find!

@MaT Revisiting old crap I did out of boredom. I looked into SKALA, and am seriously tempted by the idea. Unfortunately, the system is extremely small scale. Being a few desks and then larger computer terminals with TINY buttons and lights. it'd be extremely hard to do in a timely manner.

could you link me it
sammy!  [author] 2 May, 2024 @ 2:46pm
@leiferickappel No, you need the original map to be able to spawn the base computer, tape drives, printer, and card reader. None of my models are spawnable.
Marie 2 May, 2024 @ 7:15am
wasnt it spawnable a while ago?

IBM 1401?
Hell yeah!

@indeepj Check my creations, Just dropped.
MaT 11 May, 2023 @ 2:02am
you should make a SKALA computer
indeepj 10 May, 2023 @ 10:48pm
i see. another ibm mainframe then
you specify it ending with a 4 but specifying it being a mainframe means it isnt the ibm 1404 or 1444, and im not certain its something like the 1624 either (though thats from the 1600 series, so. it presumably doesnt count? dont know, presuming that it also may disquality it from being under the 1130 series aswell?]

@Tkmined Ah! Nice. Let me know when your getting started!
Tkmined 3 May, 2023 @ 5:58pm
Ok! I'll try and get working on it when I have the chance. Collage is wrapping up, so Ill have a bunch of freetime in a few weeks.
sammy!  [author] 24 Apr, 2023 @ 5:00pm
@Tkmined Sorry! Was out yesterday. Sounds good! I believe your talking about the disk storage unit? I added a tape library today, and I'd love to see some more functionality! Let me know.
Tkmined 23 Apr, 2023 @ 1:10pm
Just played the map more thoroughly. I like your addition of some of the extra equipment! The workstation terminal, the hard drive, and that other thing that i'm not sure what it is. could do with some functionality, and I'd be happy to supply it! ;)

One thing I'd like to see would be a tape library. you can have some extra empty reels in there, and a few programs. I could even construct a compiler for the tapes if you want. I would just need to find some reliable documentation before I get to modeling. Great work so far! Let me know If you want me on the team working on this map.

@Tkmined Glad to see you approve! Thanks for checking out the creation.

ORIGINAL CREATOR HERE: This is in response to some comments about emulating the actual 1401 in-game. Yeah, implimenting a full emulation of the IBM 1401 just wouldn't be possible. its not as simple as emulation of the NES, or other computers and software. this computer was made when hardware was not standarized as much as it is now. even if it were emulated, do you really want to make a program consisting of 100s of punch cards for a fortran program? Spoiler alert: its very tedious and can take hours. there is currently only one functional IBM 1401 left in the world, and it is currently undergoing restoration at a museum in Binghamton, NY. I do aspire to visit it someday. regardless, I'm happy someone wanted to make a map with my creation!

nothing indeejp
indeepj 4 Apr, 2023 @ 7:35am
that isnt possible to implement into teardown.
Mellow 4 Apr, 2023 @ 3:44am
about my prevous comment about this you could use arduino software
indeepj 3 Apr, 2023 @ 8:07pm
what does the monitor/television do
LickyIcky 1 Apr, 2023 @ 11:30am
i love tech so much man
sammy!  [author] 29 Mar, 2023 @ 3:14pm
@indeepj i agree all the way.
indeepj 28 Mar, 2023 @ 6:17pm
watch as someone complains that no developer is willing to try to make something unimaginably complicated in teardown with several endless layers worth of scripts (which if even possible, would probably be extremely laggy. endless optimizations would be necessary, if even possible.]

sammy!  [author] 26 Mar, 2023 @ 4:56pm
@Mellow What?! Get an emulator! I ain't gonna add programming mechanics to a voxel game about destruction! Sorry.
indeepj 26 Mar, 2023 @ 2:05pm
that would be unimaginably difficult i'd imagine.
Mellow 26 Mar, 2023 @ 11:13am
Ok but this would be ALOT better if you could add programing mechanics.
sammy!  [author] 26 Mar, 2023 @ 10:03am
@Mellow Turn it all on, Doesnt do anything but produce light and sound.
Mellow 26 Mar, 2023 @ 9:05am
how do i use this?
sammy!  [author] 26 Mar, 2023 @ 8:58am
@enrique.waisfisz WAIT THAT IS AN AMAZING IDEA
enrique.waisfisz 25 Mar, 2023 @ 7:29pm
oooooo can you make e 70s nuke silo met the 1401 system :steamhappy:
sammy!  [author] 25 Mar, 2023 @ 5:04pm
@HDavidson , That's all it's supposed to do.
HDavidson 25 Mar, 2023 @ 2:25pm
how do i work it ive turned everything on and it just makes noised and moves?
sammy!  [author] 25 Mar, 2023 @ 12:35pm
@Nonya Do you mind if I use the TV model from the motel as decor? If not I can remove it.
sammy!  [author] 25 Mar, 2023 @ 6:38am
@Nonya The motel was awesome! Never seen anything like it on teardown. Love maps/models here from the 60's-70's, People do amazing jobs and they are fun to destroy and take a deeper look into. I was shocked when I realized Tkmined made insides for the 1401 mainframe.
sammy!  [author] 25 Mar, 2023 @ 6:36am
@eggerman That is all it does, There is no point in making a working mainframe computer in a voxel game about destruction, if you want it to really do something; get an emulator.
sammy!  [author] 25 Mar, 2023 @ 6:35am
@GreatGizmo74 Thanks! You should really be telling Tkmined that, He did amazing! I just put em' all in a room and decorated!
sammy!  [author] 25 Mar, 2023 @ 6:34am
@nonya Very cool, What ended up happening to it?
GreatGizmo74 25 Mar, 2023 @ 6:04am
I don't think you understand how cool this is. I always loved the old computer Mainframes from the 70's with the tapes. This is so cool!
indeepj 25 Mar, 2023 @ 12:36am
yeah thats what it does
eggerman 24 Mar, 2023 @ 10:16pm
its just makign noises
eggerman 24 Mar, 2023 @ 10:15pm
bro what do i do, i have them all turned on and nothing is happening
Nonya 24 Mar, 2023 @ 8:27pm
oh and thanks for the motel sub lol
Nonya 24 Mar, 2023 @ 8:26pm
I made a computer based off of this for a 1960s/70s office that i'll never finish but it was mainly static except for the reels
sammy!  [author] 24 Mar, 2023 @ 6:01pm
@Paladin Ares , Shockingly not a very original idea! Bet the FBI would be scared. :bricksplosion:
Wiese 24 Mar, 2023 @ 5:06pm
I'm going to use this to make a very complex bomb and sneak it inside of a Casino.
